  1. At least all the other Central teams lost yesterday. The White Sox loss was pretty comical as they rallied three times to extend the game only to lose in 14 innings. They had a pinch-hit three-run homer in the ninth to tie it and A.J. hit an 0-2, two-out homer to tie it in extra innings. Crazy.

    1. Washington had eight pitchers: Starter with ND (7IP, 0R), two relievers with holds, three blown saves, one ND reliever, and the reliever with the win. Had Washington scored one less in the top of the 14th, they could have brought in a ninth pitcher for the save.

  2. I knew we couldn't expect our AAA Twins to keep up the June pace, but I really hate waiting for our "starters" to get back up to speed. Watching Joe & Nishi struggle at the plate is brutal, even though I know* they need major league at-bats to be effective in the stretch run.
    *hope*

And then we lose the Mountie for 6 weeks.

    1. Getting closer for some:

Outfielder Denard Span played catch and took swings off a batting tee for the first time in nearly three weeks and reported no concussion symptoms.

      • Jason Kubel (sprained left foot) also had a good day, running without pain. Trainer Rick McWane said the outfielder is close to being game-ready. The Twins plan to have Kubel run the bases this weekend and then re-evaluate him Monday.

      • Kevin Slowey (strained abdomen) is scheduled to pitch two or three innings for Class A Fort Myers on Saturday night in Bradenton, Fla.

  3. Someone want to explain to me why we are still carrying 3 catchers? We sent back Tosoni, who could easily be starting tonight in RF, instead we get Repko. Is it because we want to move Mauer to 1B so Butera and/or Rivera's bat can get in the lineup???!!??? WTF is going on?

    1. it was either 3 catchers or another futility infielder. You can't hamstring Gardy by taking away both.

  4. Repko in right, Cuddyer at first, Hughes on the bench. Rest of lineup intact, other than Nishi batting ahead of Repko. At least the defense is improved and I don't think Hughes had much chance against Gallardo's curveball. Can't wait to get Thome in there at DH next week.

  5. Our cable provider has a free preview of HBO, including OnDemand, this weekend. Last night, I suggested we watch "Game of Thrones". She wasn't too interested, but she said "Sure, whatever you want" Now she's all about it - "Can we watch one more?"

I'm enjoying it so far. It's got a little of everything I like in a TV show - swearing, whoring, fighting, stabbing (lots of stabbing), intrigue, good plot and good acting.

    1. I'm thinking about reviving the movie post for a post-mortem on season one of Game of Thrones.

        1. The final episode aired Sunday night, but I didn't watch it until Thursday. Plus, I'm not sure how many people are watching it other than DK, cheaptoy, and myself.

          1. If GoT discussion shows up in an old/new Movie Day post, I'm sure I'll have something to say.

            1. I am just starting book 3. Expect a GoT/Gaggle of Kings (or whatever the second book title was) post a week from monday.

  6. My hammock got here from REI today. I already took a nap on the deck. It's awesome. The best feature is that the pouch it folds up into is attached to the long edge, so it provides a convenient beer holder.

  7. y'know, even without the canuck couple, that Darling Nikki Punto banner is pretty awesome.
If anyone can find a wide pic of him sliding into first, it would make a nice complement. Perhaps we could make a diptych banner.

  8. the song 'Rockin' at Midnight' by The Honeydrippers hits me in the right spot all the time. Too bad the song never really caught fire on the radio. The Honeydrippers are probably best known as a Robert Plant side project and the huge single 'Sea of Love'.

any song catching your fancy tonight?
