Game 34: Toronto 3, Minnesota 4

Twins winning hand includes the Ace of Diamonds

The Twins find a Diamond in the rough.

Diamonds are forever.

Diamond pitched a real gem.

Diamonds are [a] Gardy's best friend.

Blue Jays cut down by a Diamond.

Forget it. I'll just go with "A very nice outing by Scott Diamond." 0 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings while walking none, striking out 4 and calmly taking a screaming liner off the back of his throwing shoulder.* He gets the W and is now 2-0. The Toronto Ace Opening Day Starter, Ricky Romero, picked up his first loss of the season.

Offense couldn't help but score some runs off of 8 walks (Pussy with 3!) and 10 hits. Unfortunately, they only plated 4, leaving 11 men on base and hitting into 3 double plays (Plouffe! with 2 of them). In the end, 4 was enough to get the win.

Burton had a minor meltdown in the 8th, giving up his first hit(s) in more than a month. He was charged with all three of Toronto's runs. He did get Bautista to foul out to Joe for the first out of the inning...so there's that.

Dozier hit his first major league home run to get the Twins on the board in the 3rd. It was hit a long way, upper deck in left. Doumit knocked in the final 2 runs for the Twins with a sharp single in the 5th. Bacon Double Cheeseburger picked up the save, his 7th.

The Twins split the series with Toronto (their first since splitting with KC (thank you rainout) 2 weeks ago) and get into double digit wins. Up next, the Tribe is in town for a quick visit. Up to this point, the Twins have played exactly 2 games against Central Division foes. So, if they can take care of business against Gomez and Lowe, they could have a "winning record" within the division when they leave for Detroit on Tuesday evening!

*He then calmly picked the ball up and threw to first for the final out of the inning. He's alright, or at least, I haven't heard otherwise.
