Guy Hecker is one of three pitchers to have won over fifty games in a season.  He is also the only pitcher to have won a batting title.

Larry Shepard managed Pittsburgh in 1968-1969.  Coincidentally, he was replaced by Alex Grammas.

Jerry Dale was a National League umpire from 1971-85.  He pitched in the minors for the Washington (now Minnesota) franchise from 1951-52.

Mark Shapiro was the general manager of the Cleveland Indians from 2001-10 and was president of that club from 2011-2015, when he became president of the Toronto Blue Jays.

We would also like to wish a very happy birthday to Papa Pirate.

2012 Twins Game Recaps

Game 108: Twins 4, Red Sox 6

The Twins missed a series sweep at Fenway by one game. According to someone, they last swept the BoSox in Boston in our World Championship year of 1991. They managed only 6 hits but recorded 3 runs in the top of the 9th (HR's by Willingham (28!) and Doumit (11)) to make the finale interesting.

Revere extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single leading off the first - the longest hitting streak since ii made it to 23 games in 2007. He's currently batting .323/.354/.383 and is a staple in the lineup since being recalled from AAA, playing in 73 games for the Twins this season and starting in center on Sunday. He also had a really nice over-the-shoulder catch and completed a double play with his throw to second.

In other news, Blackburn wasn't very good - pitching 5 innings and allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs while striking out 4.

Before the game, the Twins traded Danny Valencia to the Red Sox for outfielder and 21-year-old prospect Jeremias Pineda. Juicy was immediately sent to AAA Pawtucket. There are rumors that Nishioka has been recalled. I didn't really care to confirm.

Game 95: Twins 7, Royals 5

Doumit hit homeruns from both sides of the plate, went 3-4 and drove in 4 runs. Deduno earned his first major league "W" going 6.1 innings and allowing only 1 earned run. Swarzak and Perkins both gave up homeruns. The Twins beat the original Jeremy, recently acquired by the Royals from Colorado for Jonathon Sanchez.

The Twins take the series 2-1 and are now 40-55, a half-game back of the Royals.

Game 34: Toronto 3, Minnesota 4

Twins winning hand includes the Ace of Diamonds

The Twins find a Diamond in the rough.

Diamonds are forever.

Diamond pitched a real gem.

Diamonds are [a] Gardy's best friend.

Blue Jays cut down by a Diamond.

Forget it. I'll just go with "A very nice outing by Scott Diamond." 0 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings while walking none, striking out 4 and calmly taking a screaming liner off the back of his throwing shoulder.* He gets the W and is now 2-0. The Toronto Ace Opening Day Starter, Ricky Romero, picked up his first loss of the season.

Offense couldn't help but score some runs off of 8 walks (Pussy with 3!) and 10 hits. Unfortunately, they only plated 4, leaving 11 men on base and hitting into 3 double plays (Plouffe! with 2 of them). In the end, 4 was enough to get the win.

Game 16 Recap: Minnesota 2, Tampa Bay 6

I had a full day planned so I recorded todays tilt on the old DVR. Maybe my technology has a heart because when I went to review the game this evening, it hadn’t been recorded after all. At first I was annoyed, but then I checked out the box score… yuck. After committing 3 errors in last night’s ballgame, the Twins cleaned it up today and didn’t commit a single one.
