You Are Invited

If nothing unexpected happens between now and then, I, Jeff A, will be ordained as an elder in full connection to the Dakotas Conference of the United Methodist Church on Friday, June 8, 2012.  The ordination ceremony will take place at 7:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.  I know Sioux Falls is a long way from, well, pretty much everybody here, but if anyone should be so motivated as to attend, you would be welcome.

  1. Congrats on your ordination, Padre! I would be there without question if it were one week sooner or later. As it stands, I have a wedding to attend on the morning of the 9th in the middle-of-nowhere-Nebraska, so I can't be in SD. Again, congrats. I don't know how you do all you do around here and have a real job at the same time.

    1. in the middle-of-nowhere-Nebraska

Brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department.

    2. I know a few people in middle-of-nowhere, Nebraska. Where are you going to be?

  2. Congratulations. I will be at the second best place to be that weekend - Target Field!

  3. Congratulations, Jeff!
Hey, I'm an exception to the "pretty much everybody"! Let me check my calendar...
Three Fridays from now, eh? 7 PM is during my normal work shift, but I work different shifts a lot. I likely won't know until that week, but I'll make sure to get in touch with you and let you know once I have my schedule finalized.

  4. I have attended an ordination in the past, and I have to say it's best attended when you know someone in the ceremony. 😉

    Congrats on the achievement!

    1. Yeah, I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking the ceremony is going to be really exciting or anything. I mean, it'll be exciting for me and the others involved, but to watch, probably not so much.

  5. great news, pastor. you may have to deal with me calling you "jeff the elder" though. if i was actually close to SD, i wouldn't definitely try to make it.

oh, and thanks for the notice the other day.

  6. Congratulations, Padre! I will be sending the indefatigable Sid Hartman in my stead.

  7. Thank you, everyone. One of the great things about this place is being able to share the successes and failures of life with a group of friends.

  8. Congratulations, Jeff.
At one point when you first announced this, I imagined being able to make it, but I realized a while ago that such travel would be very difficult for me to manage. Know that I wish to be there.

Thank you for ministering to the WGOM. I believe that your presence here both as a man of the cloth and as a calm and tempered voice on most issues is a large factor in the friendliness and collegiality of this basement, in contrast with every other place on the internet that I've witnessed. I appreciate that, and the rest you do here, immensely.

    1. I'd like to second this emotion.

I'm not a person of faith, but I appreciate those who are called to serve others. Congrats on a well deserved (and earned) achievement.
