Minor Details: Games of 7/5

Rochester and New Britain use big innings to win.  Rain may be the only thing that could stop Elizabethton.  Joe Benson resumes his rehab assignment in the GCL.

ROCHESTER 6, PAWTUCKET 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double.  Matt Carson was 2-for-4 with a double.  Pedro Florimon was 2-for-5.

Pitching starJeff Manship started and worked four shutout innings despite giving up four hits and four walks.

Opposition stars:  Che-Hsuan Lin was 3-for-5.  Alex Hassan was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double.  Andy LaRoche was 2-for-3 with two walks.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Red Sox scored in the top of the inning to take a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom half, the first eight Red Wings reached base.  A walk to Brian Dinkelman and singles by Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Florimon each singled to tie the score.  Rene Rivera was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Carson drove in two with a double.  Sean Burroughs was hit by a pitch to re-load the bases and two wild pitches made the score 5-1.  Danny Valencia then singled home the sixth run of the inning.

OtherDeolis Guerra was placed on the disabled list with shoulder tendonitis.  Dan Sattler was called up from New Britain to replace him.

NEW BRITAIN 7, TRENTON 1 IN TRENTON

Batting starsChris Colabello was 3-for-4 with two doubles.  Oswaldo Arcia was 3-for-5.

Pitching starsB. J. Hermsen gave up an unearned run on five hits and two walks in seven innings.  David Bromberg threw two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  David Adams was 3-for-4.  Zoilo Almonte was 2-for-4 with a double.  Francisco Rondon worked two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Rock Cats led 1-0.  With runners on first and third with two out, five consecutive batters reached base to take the lead to 6-0.  Chris Herrmann and Arcia each delivered RBI singles.  Colabello was hit by a pitch to lead the bases and Evan Bigley walked to force in a run.  Deibinson Romero then came through with a two-run single to cap off the rally.

FORT MYERS 8, CHARLOTTE 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsDaniel Ortiz was 3-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Anderson Hidalgo was 2-for-4.  Jairo Perez was 2-for-5.

Pitching starNelvin Fuentes worked 1.2 scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing three hits.

Opposition stars:  Steven Tinoco and Cody Rogers were each 4-for-5.  Robi Estrada was 3-for-5.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Miracle led 5-3.  Ortiz led off the inning with a home run.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases.  Michael Gonzales walked to force in a run and a wild pitch scored another to put the game out of reach.

Other:  Charlotte out-hit Fort Myers 15-10.  All fifteen Stone Crabs hits were singles.

CLINTON 5, BELOIT 3 IN CLINTON

Batting starsDrew Leachman was 3-for-4.  Tyler Grimes was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Pitching starTyler Jones struck out seven in five innings, giving up a run on two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Ramon Morla was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jordan Shipers struck out seven in six innings, allowing a run on seven hits.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 3-1, the Snappers tied the score when Grimes homered and Steven Liddle produced an RBI double.  In the bottom of the inning, a single, a walk, and an RBI single by Morla put the LumberKings ahead.  An intentional walk loaded the bases and a hit batsman forced in an insurance run.

Other:  Both Adam Bryant and manager Nelson Prada were ejected at different times by plate umpire Ben Guttenberger.

KINGSPORT AT ELIZABETHTON

Rained out.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

GCL TWINS 5, ORIOLES 0 AT TWINS

Batting starJoe Benson was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching starsSam Gibbons gave up three hits in five innings.  Alexander Muren allowed three hits in two innings.  Melciades De La Cruz gave up a hit and a walk in two innings.

Opposition stars:  Nikolas Balog and Hector Veloz each went 2-for-4.  Luc Rennie struck out two in two perfect innings.

Key inning:  The third.  The score was tied at zero.  With two out, Benson walked and Byron Buxton and John Murphy hit back-to-back doubles to put the Twins ahead 2-0.  Dereck Rodriguez reached on an error to put runners on first and third.  Rodriguez and Murphy then pulled off a double steal of second and home to give the Twins a 3-0 lead.

DSL ORIOLES 6, TWINS 4 AT TWINS

Batting starsGabriel A. Ynfante was 3-for-3.  Adonis Pacheco was 1-for-2 with a home run and three walks.  Joel Polanco was 1-for-1 with three walks.

Pitching starJunior Subero gave up a run on five hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings.

Opposition stars:  Rockny Martinez was 4-for-5 with a triple.  Junior Taveras was 4-for-5.  Alexander Mercedes was 2-for-5 with a triple.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With the score tied at four, the Orioles used three singles and a wild pitch to score twice.

      1. I know, but that fact that a minor-league starter had the best pitching line in the org wasn't gonna stop my running gag.
