      1. Duh.

Also because having a third catcher is more important than having a fourth outfielder.

        1. Well, fifth outfielder. Except today it would be a third outfielder since Span and Willingham are out.

    1. Agreed. Oswalt, no big deal despite being fewer than six inches away from Diamond's "errant" pitch.

      1. That's what's ridiculous. Oswalt should get more than Diamond. He's the one who started the whole thing in the first place.

        1. Since he only threw 54 pitches, bring him back on short rest and then sit for five. I know the Twins have 20 games in a row, but the appeal might push the suspension back so an off day will happen towards the end.

  1. Not bad: Seggiano (raw basil pesto, Genovese-style), on liguine w/ Parmegiano-Reggiano.

    Carbo-load for tomorrow morning's 7am 9-mile run.

    1. made pesto earlier this week for pasta, always a hit with the family.

      What's "Genovese-style" pesto?

      1. We were just in Liguria a month ago, and had it several times. Basil, of course, and pine nuts - I think some garlic, and olive oil - mixed much smoother, however, not as gritty as "regular Pesto", and more flavorful.

The wife doesn't usually like pesto, but really did over in Riomaggiore.

        1. I looked it up. Genovese basil is apparently a different type, and this pesto is supposed to be pounded in a mortar. Did you pound, or use a food processor?

          1. Store-botten, I must confess.

Interestingly, the jar says to use up in 2 weeks after opening.

              1. Store-botten is New Richland-speak, BTW. Also white-bread. Learned that whilst in A.L.

    1. I hate it when a story refuses to fall nicely into place. The darn thing will just sit in the back of my head and poke at me until I manage to get it out.

            1. Mine's loosely based on a true story. More accurately, it's a plausible future for me as told from the past. In 20 years, it could be a true story.

  2. Really? You're gonna sacrifice in this situation, with a mediocre rookie pitcher who struggles to find the plate on the mound?

    Thankyouverymuchfor the free out.

    1. I might try sac bunting to Deduno, too. He obviously can't throw the ball in a straight line.

  3. Well, I've seen enough for now. I'm heading out for a walk with the wife. When I get back I've got sixers of 1554 and Summit Oktoberfest waiting for me.

  4. who's the color guy tonight? Smalley? some actual analysis of all the horrific mechanics DeDon'tKnow is displaying

  5. Do you suppose that maybe more HRs to RF in Arlington might have something to do with having Josh Hamilton jacking a lot of dongers the last three years, Coom?

  6. Dazzlemania: Players that went deep 4X gainst the Rangers:

My (quick but bad) guess: Hrbek, Nansky, Hisle, Carew.

  7. 6-nil in the 5th with a static-filled signal from 1500? No thanks. You'll have to talk amongst yourselves.

  8. without looking, I bet Beltre's career slash line against the Twins is something like .400/.500/1.125

            1. Spooks sent out an e-mail that the deadline got pushed back 'til 2:30 PM tomorrow. Don't know if you want to keep working on it or not, but it's an option now.

              1. yeah, you do know that the (original) deadline was 9pm CT, right? i'd laugh if you'd enjoyed the use of those extra words, then non-subbed by mistake.

          1. I was going to say it has to be a little less icky, but then I thought of all some of the implications our little group of twisted folks could put into a family reunion. Yeah, it could easily be just as disturbing, couldn't it?

              1. dido. but i think we might see a couple "uncle" stories (which, admittedly, i thought of one and discounted).

                1. I definitely rejected a few storylines. Fortunately none of them were "uncle" stories, which means I didn't have to spend any time thinking about such things.

  9. I believe it was SBG who once observed that the record of teams in games in which they score zero runs is not good. Kyle Waldrop had a good game in his first major league outing of the season. Other than that, well, I guess we'll just have to settle for 88-74!
