Minor Details: Games of 4/11

Fort Myers stays perfect.  Caleb Thielbar looks impressive.  Josmil Pinto hits his fourth home run.

PAWTUCKET 5, ROCHESTER 4 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his third.  Mark Sobolewski hit a two-run homer.

Pitching stars:  Caleb Thielbar struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.  Michael O'Connor gave up one hit in 1.1 scoreless innings.  Luis Perdomo struck out both batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  David Ortiz, on a rehab assignment, was 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in one.  Justin Henry was 2-for-3 and scored twice.  Drew Sutton was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Key inning:  The fifth.  With the score tied at two, Pawtucket put together three singles, a double, and another single to score three times.  Most of the damage was done off starter Kyle Gibson.  Rochester came back with two runs in the seventh, but only got one man on base after that and did not advance him past first.

PORTLAND 9, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Jason Christian was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.  Josmil Pinto hit a two-run homer, his fourth.

Pitching star:  A. J. Achter struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Kolbrin Vitek was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Tony Thomas was 2-for-6 with a two-run homer and a double, scoring twice.  Brandon Workman struck out seven in six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The second.  The Pinto home run had put the Rock Cats ahead 2-0 after one.  New Britain then made three errors in the second inning, leading to three unearned runs which put Portland ahead.  The SeaDogs got two more in the third and the Rock Cats never got back into the game.

FORT MYERS 6, JUPITER 5 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Adam Pettersen was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Angel Morales was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Chad Rogers pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks while striking out two.  Ryan O'Rourke gave up one hit and one walk in two shutout innings.  Zach Jones struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Rieger was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Isaac Galloway was 2-for-5.

Key inning:  The eighth.  With the score tied at five, Pettersen hit an RBI double with one out, scoring Matt Koch with the go-ahead run.

  1. The Kernels' doubleheader has been rained out as well. Cedar Rapids hasn't played since Monday.
