  1. Dear Citizens:

I've been working on the banner's page: http://wgom.org/our-images/headers/ so that at any time we can see the current and former banners that everyone is talking about.

I've cleaned it up, but there are some missing banner links. I think the fastest way to solve this issue is that if you make banners check the page. If one you made is missing let me know how you can get me a copy of the image.

In the future, do whatever you usually do to alert Spooky or Sean or whomever, but maybe try to name the file "banner - ______________" or maybe "banner - username - filename" so it is easily searchable in the WordPress media library.

I still have some edits to make, but most of the banners are easily viewable right now.

    1. Awesome work.

You probably already figured this out, but some of the missing images can be fixed by replacing "atahualpa373" with "atahualpa3711". Better yet would be to upload them to the media library, but that should help with getting them.

      1. Right I think media library is the way to go so we can be theme agnostic. I'm going through doing a manual search to fill in the blanks right now.

      1. On my comp, under "Boooooo" is another Spoonto banner. That needs fixing. Then, many links below are broken, but I assume that's what you're fixing.

I'm about to start adding ones that aren't there.

          1. The five we've added are Bacon, Kitties, Oh Balls, Peeeeeekkk, and Sticky Bun Come Soon. hungry joe, I think these are all yours; correct me if I'm wrong.

  2. Well, I'm making the plunge into smartphone ownership. Virgin Mobile actually has a reasonable data plan that will be cheaper than the regular old talk and text plan I have through US Cellular. So I no longer have to be a part of anything White Sox related anymore.

    1. Do you use the phone as a phone? I don't, so I recently switched to T-Mobile's prepaid plan and dropped my monthly bill to $30. The catch is only 100 minutes of talk all month. That's about 90 minutes more than I use a month. I did have to buy the phone outright (Nexus 4), but I break-even in under a year.

      1. I don't use my phone as a phone a whole lot, but my wife does. Even with 1200 minutes, there's a plan that's $45/month with unlimited data. Even if I get the same plan, at $100/month we'd be a good $80 less than what we'd spend if we got a data plan added to our US Cellular account, and that wouldn't even be unlimited.

    2. I'm teetering on the edge of getting a smartphone. The price has come down enough on data plans to where cost isn't much of an issue anymore- now it's just me dragging my feet.

      1. My boss was touting Virgin to me. He says he gets coverage as good as when he had US Cellular, the only catch is you do have to pay for the phone.

        1. My friend just signed up for it and seems to be pleased so far. I believe Virgin uses the same towers as Sprint, so as long as Sprint coverage in your area is decent you should be golden. Sprint coverage doesn't really work for me when I travel, but I pretty badly want to leave Verizon since I am spending $100+ a month for my phone. I might switch to Straight Talk when my contract is up.

  3. Liriano no runs, 7K and no BBs through four innings in minor league rehab start. If he actually figures it out, I would be happy for him if it was for the Pirates.

  4. Just interviewed for a pretty significant promotion at work. I love the company I work for, and I know they like me, too, so hopefully that relationship bears fruit. The interview went pretty well. Thankfully, my shirt hid how much I was sweating.

    Cross your fingers!

    1. Frankly, you strike me as the right person for the job. Of course, I'd be inclined to say you deserve it regardless of the specifics, given that there are precious few people in the world with such good judgement as yourself. Good luck.

    1. And then an outstanding steak sammich with blue cheese, arugula, and a really smokey Bacon aoili. ZOMG.

I am stuffed, and will probably fall asleep during the second half of this seminar.

Word to the academic wise: go on the "data visualization" lecture circuit. Easy money. I bow down to E. Tufte. I am not learning all that much (other than that I would love to have an expense account in SF). But he puts on a respectable show. And rakes it in.

      1. I have heard that you don't cover really anything of note in the seminars that isn't in his books. I've also heard that his 3rd and 4th books are mostly recycled material from his first two books. I really enjoyed his first book--I think it's fair to say it changed the way I go about making graphs. Haven't gotten around to the second one yet.

        1. Dido on the first book. Looks like the other book of his that I have is his third, Envisioning Information. Don't think I read that one, but did skim it.

    2. I think certain people may have missed the more important part of the original LTE. Oyster stout. It was much too cold, but pretty tasty. As were the actual oysters. and the steak sammy.

  5. The Twins outfield tonight is going to be Arcia in left, Ramirez in center, and Parmelee in right. That sounds...less than optimal.

    1. The Twins outfield tonight is going to be Arcia in left, Ramirez in center, and Parmelee in right. That sounds…

...like hits! Let's go get 'em! [/butt slaps all around]

    2. I guess if you're going to run a terrible defense out there you may as well do it when you're facing Verlander and not likely to win anyway.

  6. I don't get it. What are these play-offs? The Wild played their entire schedule of games but now they are still playing more? How did that happen?
