Minor Details: Games of 5/19

Kyle Gibson throws a gem.  Another big day for Chris Colabello.  Deibinson Romero makes his presence felt in New Britain.

ROCHESTER 11, LEHIGH VALLEY 0 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 4-for-5 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.  Antoan Richardson was 2-for-3 with three walks, a double, and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Ray Olmedo was 3-for-5 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Kyle Gibson struck out eight in a complete game shutout, giving up three hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  None.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 3-0, the Red Wings scored six times.  With one out, Colabello singled and scored on a Jeff Clement double.  A single and a walk loaded the bases.  Joe Benson then singled in two and Richardson doubled in two more.  Olmedo drove in the final run of the inning with a single.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 7, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Deibinson Romero was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Marcus Stroman struck out six in five shutout innings, allowing four hits and a walk.  Clint Robinson was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kevin Nolan was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 2-0, the Fisher Cats struck for two more on a Kevin Pillar single followed by a home run by Ricardo Nanita.  The Rock Cats never got back into the game.  The runs came off B. J. Hermsen, who gave up four runs on eight hits and two walks in five innings.

CHARLOTTE 2, FORT MYERS 0 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting stars:  Kyle Knudson was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Levi Michael was 2-for-5.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Summers pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Zach Jones struck out one in a perfect ninth.

Opposition stars:  Felipe Rivero pitched 5.2 innings, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out four.  Richie Shaffer was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Stone Crabs led 1-0.  In the top of the inning, Angel Morales hit a one-out double but was caught stealing third.  A walk, a single, and another walk then loaded the bases, but Andy Leer flied out to end the threat.  In the bottom of the inning, Willie Argo single, stole second, stole third, and scored on a Hector Guevara single to put Charlotte up 2-0.

CEDAR RAPIDS 8, KANE COUNTY 7 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run, his fourth, scoring twice.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-3 with two walks and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Candido Pimentel was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Jeimer Candelario was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Bijan Rademacher was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Kernels led 7-5.  Rademacher singled and David Bote hit a two-run homer to tie the score at seven.  In the bottom of the ninth, Williams led off with a double and was bunted to third.  Two intentional walks followed.  Dalton Hicks then hit a sacrifice fly to left to win the game.
