  1. Vance Worley threw a complete game shutout for Rochester yesterday. It remains to be seen whether this is a positive thing or rather a way to discount Gibson's performance to date. Hopefully, the former.

  2. From Jonah Keri's power rankings (Twins are 25th)

In fact, the Twins starters' inability to miss bats isn't just bad by 2013 standards — it's spectacularly, historically awful. The last teams' starters to strike out hitters at such an infrequent rate were the K-deficient Royals and Angels staffs of the early '80s. But league-average strikeout rates were much lower 30 years ago than they are this season, when they've reached an all-time high. According to FanGraphs, if you line up the Twins starters' strikeout rate against league average this year, then compare that number to other rotations in previous seasons, you get … the worst strikeout rate by a starting staff in the history of baseball.

    Emphasis his.

      1. Thanks for reminding me that I saved 120 American dollars when I didn't sign up for MLB.tv.

    1. It'd be dry heaving since I emptied my stomach the other week about Johnny Flynn over Stephen Curry.

    2. on the one hand, yea. On the other hand, there were FIVE guys picked between Wes and Paul George (Demarcus Cousins, Ekpe Udoh, Greg Monroe, Al-Faroukh Aminu, and Gordon Hayward).

    3. This draft smells a lot like 2011 (except that there actually was a Number 1 pick that year in Kyrie Irving). Outside of Irving, the guys with the biggest impact so far probably are Klay Thompson (11th), Kawhi Leonard (15th), Kenny Faried (22nd), Jimmy Butler (30th), and Chandler Parsons (38th).

  3. I'm getting cramps in my shoulders from trying to type with Runner daughter's dog sleeping in my lap. We've had maybe 1-½ days without thunder in the past 5-6, and she's had enough.

  4. Since there's been a little Wolves talk today, may as well throw this out there-
Interesting take on Barea, everyone's favorite sparkplug/fire hydrant/tiny little superhero. I thought the conclusion of the piece was the most interesting part-

He’s (Barea) not actually results-oriented; he’s so process-oriented, in fact, that it’s easily mistaken for the inverse. He knows the result is up to the whole team working together, playing their roles, and he knows what his role is.

I've never been a fan of his since he got the Wolves, but like so many of the Timberwolves, it's more because he's been forced into a higher-usage role than he should be in. After reading that (and lip-reading the GIF of Barea calling out Ray Allen- good enunciation!), I like him a bit more. I just wish the Wolves had the depth to use JJ as a change-of-pace point guard.

    1. I've been enjoying his roster review. He got me to grudgingly be ok with Stiemsma's season.

      1. McPherson is a bit of a relentless optimist- maybe even a step above JeffA and his quest for 162-0!

    2. I remember after a particularly ill-advised stepback 3-point jumper that Adelman pulled him, and Barea’s reaction in the locker room was to be glad that coach took him out. Otherwise, he said, he was going to try and shoot another.

this reminds me of a recent postgame interview with Popovich, about Manu, after he'd bricked an ill-advised three to allow the Warriors to tie the game, then hit another three to win it. Pop, doing his best Manu, shrugged his shoulders, curled his lip and said "It's...what I do!" and then proceeded to say that he'd quit coaching Ginobili years ago.
