Minor Details: Games of 7/15

The Miracle blows a big lead despite a big day by Bigley.  Two home runs for Adam Brett Walker II.  Elizabethton is going through a rare losing spell.

HARRISBURG 3, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN HARRISBURG (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his twelfth.  Jordan Parraz was 2-for-4.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Trevor May struck out six in seven innings, giving up two runs on three hits and four walks.  Cole Johnson struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Jimmy Van Ostrand was 2-for-4 with two home runs.  Aaron Barrett struck out three in two perfect innings.  Matt Swynenberg struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.

Key inning:  The tenth.  The score was tied at two.  Matt Hauser entered the game and gave up a leadoff walkoff homer to Van Ostrand.

Prospect watch:  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double and scored once.  Nate Hanson was 0-for-5.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-4 with a walk.

LAKELAND 10, FORT MYERS 9 IN LAKELAND

Batting stars:  Evan Bigley was 4-for-5 with a double and scored once.  Andy Leer was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring twice and driving in four.  Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in two.

Pitching star:  Chad Rodgers struck out both batters he faced.

Opposition stars:  Corey Jones was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run, driving in three.  Devon Travis was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Steven Moya was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Miracle, who at one time had led 8-1, were leading 8-5 when the Flying Tigers came roaring back with five runs.  Three consecutive one-out singles scored the first run, a walk loaded the bases, a two-run single by Jeff McVaney tied the score, and a two-run double by Jones gave Lakeland the lead.  All the damage was done off Corey Williams, who came in to start the inning.  Fort Myers got one back in the bottom of the ninth and got the tying run to second with two out, but could not tie the game.

Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-6.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-5.

"Prospect" watch:  Kyle Davies pitched 6.2 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks while striking out two.

BOWLING GREEN 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 5 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his seventeenth and eighteenth) and three RBIs.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Tyler Grimes was 1-for-2 with two walks.

Pitching stars:  Madison Boer pitched a perfect inning.  Hudson Boyd struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings but gave up three hits.

Opposition stars:  Matthew Spann gave up one run on three hits and a walk in four innings of relief while striking out three.  Patrick Leonard was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Justin O'Connor was 2-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Hot Rods scored four times to break a 1-1 tie.  A walk and a two-run homer by Tyler Goeddel started the inning.  A single and two walks loaded the bases.  One-out RBI singles by Leonard and Ryan Dunn made it a 5-1 game.

Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-5.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Jose Berrios pitched five innings, giving up five runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.

GREENEVILLE 3, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN GREENEVILLE

Batting star:  Mitch Garver was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching stars:  Andre Martinez pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits but three walks while striking out one.  Austin Malinowski pitched 1.1 scoreless innings despite giving up one hit and two walks while striking out one.  Ryan Eades pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Jandel Gustave struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks.  Tyler White was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Juan Santana was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Trailing 1-0, the Twins tied the score when Bryan Haar hit a one-out triple and scored on a sacrifice fly.  In the bottom of the inning, Parker Hipp led off with a walk, went to second on a single, and scored on a two-out single by White to give the Astros the lead back.

Prospect watch:  Dereck Rodriguez was 1-for-4.  Haar was 1-for-4 with a triple and scored once.  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-3.

GCL ORIOLES 3, GCL TWINS 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Mike Gonzales was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jason Kanzler was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Fernando Romero struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.  Jose Abreu pitched a perfect inning.  Jared Wilson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Garrett Courtright pitched five innings, giving up three hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Ronarsy Ledesma was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once.

Key inning:  The first.  The Orioles got all their runs before the Twins came to bat.  A single, a passed ball, a stolen base, and a walk put runners on first and third with one out, and following a dropped foul pop, Ledesma hit a three-run homer.

Prospect watch:  Zach Larson was 1-for-3.  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-4.  Adonis Pacheco was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.

DSL ORIOLES1 10, DSL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Eddy Concepcion was 2-for-4 with a double and three-run homer, his second.  Dubal Baez was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Manuel Guzman was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Pitching star:  Williams Ramirez pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Victor Medina was 4-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Junior Taveras was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.  Alexander Mercedes was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Key inning:  The second.  The Orioles1 led 1-0, then added three.  They had three singles in the inning.  The Twins made two errors and had a wild pitch and a passed ball.  For the game the Twins committed five errors, had three wild pitches, two passed balls, and hit three batters.

Prospect watch:  Frank Encarnacion was 0-for-4.
