    1. I love with TK fills in for Bert. You get some real baseball knowledge instead of schtick.

      1. I agree.
Ive said this before (I think), but I like Roy Smalley in the announcers booth too. They only thing bad about him is that it takes him 5 minutes and 10,000 words to make his point.

        1. I've got nothing against Bert, but I've heard all he has to say multiple times now. Fresh perspectives are nice.

        2. That's roughly 34 points per game. Seems pretty good. I struggle making 5 points a day.

  1. I don't have much to do tonight, so if the game goes well I can watch the Twins for the first time in weeks. If it turns to crap, my copy of the Japanese version of Little Samson for the NES showed up in the mail so I can just play that. Win/Win.

  2. Ah, baseball again. To celebrate the return, I got a six pack of Grain Belt Premium and a sampler four pack -- Kona Longboard, Rush River Amber Ale, Third Street Lost Trout Brown Ale, and a Founders All Day IPA.

  3. Laudner said two pitchers will form the nucleus of the Twins starting staff for the years to come. The first was Gibson. The second:

    1. I don't think I would disagree at this point. We'll see what Terry Ryan can do before next spring, though. Probably not much, but you never know with Ryan. I wouldn't want play poker with that man.

    2. Even if he had said "those two pitchers will be on the Twins starting staff for years to come", that would be a questionable analysis.

      1. I don't know about that. TR doesn't tend to trade away starting pitching when it's cheap and effective.

        1. True. I guess I just can't bring myself to trust Deduno...I suppose I should just be thankful he's been effective and hope it holds up?

          1. Control of that live fastball has always been Deduno's problem, but it seems like Anderson has come up with some strategies to mitigate that. Time will tell.

            1. Seems like the strategy has been the same as a knuckler: throw it down the middle and trust in it fluttering.

              1. That's one. They also have him use more breaking balls early in the game and early in each inning. He has a tendency to overthrow the fastball when he's amped up in the early innings.

      2. The thing about Deduno is that people tend to think of him as a young pitcher, and he's not. He's 30. I'm glad he's doing okay now, and I like him, but I sure wouldn't count on him as a key pitcher in the rotation going forward.

  4. Is Scott Kazmir going to face the Twins 7 time this year? Im sick of seeing this guy

  5. Lake Waramaug (Kent, CT) triathlon tomorrow morning - 8 bells for the swim - means we have to leave here at 5:30am.

    Nice play by Floribiscuit there.

      1. Yeah, but FOX CT News is saying it is going to break tomorrow, cold front coming in.

Can't be soon enough, the garden is a weed-disaster - but I can't deal with it when it's 99-100F and humid.

        1. It just started thunderstorming here, so depending on how fast this front moves through it should cool things off for you soon.

  6. you know, if the field get so damaged by a music concert that the grounds crew has to work night and day to get the field back into shape, then one shouldnt have music concerts during the baseball season.

        1. We saw him at New Britain in the rain. Crazy gig. Bob Dylan and His Band.

          1. No Kidding - we were in the aisle where the rain didn't reach by 1. It was Fantastic.

  7. 'Kaz-mire'. Tom Kelly going to the Bert Blyleven school of pronouncing names

    1. mc is gone until sometime on Monday, and I can't even luxuriate watching baseball. MLB blackout rules have screwed me for the last time.

      1. Well, probably not the last time, as I will probably break down and get MLB.tv again next year. But at least they've gotten me once again.

        1. Two words: anonymizing VPN. Okay, that's one word and an acronym, but you get the drift.

  8. It sure would be nice if the Twins would set whatever bats they're using against Kazmir this season on fire.

    1. Warning: Check your Google settings before doing an image search for "ass bats".

No, seriously. You can't unsee that stuff.

  9. in 16 inning so far this year, Scott Kazmir has allowed 11 hits and 3 runs to the Twins. yeesh.

  10. Attn NBB:

Second wave of the storm is rolling in, and radar indicates it will be a doozy (or very nearly one). It's dropped at least 15F here so far already in the last 2 hours.

  11. Wow. If Burton is back being dominant, that would give the Twins quite a foursome at the back of the bullpen with Burton, Fien, Thielbar and Perkins. Two right and two left. That looks real good.

    1. Yeah, what's the point of "productive" outs that advance runners if the guy up with two out doesn't swing the bat at pitches bisecting the strike zone? Jeebus.

    1. He needed every inch of precision on that, too, or Kipnis was going to be safe.

  12. I admit to being a little worried at first. Scott Kazmire was pitching really well. Even Team MVP Ryan Doumit couldn't get the ball out of the infield against him. Then Cleveland made a couple of errors, the Twins got a couple of clutch hits, and it's a three-game winning streak! We're still on track for 109-53!

Nothing like getting two outs in the bottom of the ninth and realizing your fly is down!
