Minor Details: Games of 7/18

Nick Blackburn pitched well.  Taylor Rogers pitched better.  Josmil Pinto is quietly having a really good year in New Britain.

SYRACUSE 11, ROCHESTER 4 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Chris Parmelee was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jeff Clement was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Deibinson Romero hit a three-run homer, his sixth.

Pitching stars:  A. J. Achter pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.  Edgar Ibarra pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Corey Brown was 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs.  Eury Perez was 3-for-5 with a walk and a two-run homer, scoring twice.  Tyler Moore was 2-for-3 with three walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The second.  The Chiefs broke a scoreless tie with six runs.  Chris Rahl hit a two-run homer, Will Rhymes hit a two-run triple, Danny Espinoza had an RBI single, and Rahl drove in another run with a bases-loaded walk.  The runs were charged to starter Logan Darnell, who lasted only 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out one.

"Prospect" watch:  Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-3.

BINGHAMTON 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second) and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Nick Blackburn pitched six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk while striking out two.  Ryan O'Rourke retired all six batters he faced, striking out the last five.

Opposition stars:  Mark Cohoon pitched 7.1 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Darrell Ceciliani was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.  Allan Dykstra was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Mets trailed 3-1.  Matt Hauser came in to pitch and retired the first two batters.  Then Justin Turner singled, Josh Rodriguez walked, and Dykstra singled to make it 3-2.  Cesar Puello walked to load the bases and Rhyne Hughes hit a two-run single to put Binghamton ahead.

Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 0-for-4.  Nate Hanson was 1-for-4 with a double.

FORT MYERS 1, DUNEDIN 0 IN DUNEDIN

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching star:  Taylor Rogers pitched a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight and walking two.  The hit was a two-out double by Peter Mooney in the sixth.

Opposition stars:  J. A. Happ struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks.  Aaron Sanchez struck out six in four innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The sixth.  J. D. Williams led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Byron Buxton.

Prospect watch:  Buxton was 1-for-3 with an RBI.  Aderlin Mejia was 1-for-4.  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-4.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, LAKE COUNTY 7 IN LAKE COUNTY

Batting stars:  Jonathan Murphy was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his first), scoring three times and driving in three.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Madison Boer struck out two in a scoreless inning, despite giving up two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Joseph Sever was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in four.  Jeremy Lucas was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Erik Gonzalez was 2-for-5 with a double.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Kernels had seen a 6-2 lead drop to 7-6.  In the top of the inning, a hit batsman, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with none out.  Polanco drove in one with a sacrifice fly and Walker II brought home another with a single to make it 9-6.  Anthony Santander homered in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-7, but that was as close as the Captains came.

Prospect watch:  Max Kepler was 1-for-3 with two walks and scored twice.

ELIZABETHTON 2, BRISTOL 1 IN BRISTOL (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Carlos Avila was 1-for-2 and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Felix Jorge struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  Brandon Peterson struck out two in a perfect inning.  Carson Goldsmith struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Starter Scott Carroll pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout.  Nestor Molina pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Carl Thomore was 2-for-3 with a double.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins trailed 1-0.  Avila and Zach Granite led off the inning with singles and were moved to second and third with a bunt.  Bryan Haar tied the score with a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch gave Elizabethton the lead.

Prospect watch:  Granite was 1-for-3 and scored once.  Haar was 0-for-1 with a walk and an RBI.  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-3.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BRISTOL 2 IN BRISTOL (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Bryan Santy was 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his fourth), scoring twice.  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.  Aaron Slegers pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Andrew Ferreira pitched a scoreless inning despite walking three.

Opposition stars:  Toby Thomas was 2-for-4.  Nolan Earley was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  Haar led off the inning with a double.  With one out, Santy singled in a run, Kelvin Ortiz singled, Pimentel tripled in two, and Ryan Walker hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.  The White Sox got one back in the bottom of the inning but never got closer than three runs.

Prospect watch:  Zach Granite was 0-for-4.  Dereck Rodriguez was 0-for-3.

GCL RAYS AT GCL TWINS

The game was suspended after six and a half innings with the score tied 4-4.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 9, DSL TWINS 7 AT DIAMONDBACKS

Batting stars:  Jet Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.  Joel Ramirez was 2-for-5 and scored once.  Francis Mateo was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Pitching star:  Williams Ramirez struck out four in two innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Fernery Ozuna was 4-for-5 and scored once.  Richi Sanchez was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Gerson Jimenez was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Trailing 8-3, the Twins scored four to get back into the game.  Rafael P. Valera hit a two-run single, a run scored on a wild pitch, and another run scored on a second-and-home double steal.  The Twins had runners on second and third with two out, but a ground out ended the inning.  With their lead cut to 8-7, the Diamondbacks got an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a walk, a passed ball, a wild pitch, and another passed ball.  The Twins never got the tying run on base again.

Prospect watch:  Frank Encarnacion was 1-for-4 and scored once.
