NORFOLK 3, ROCHESTER 2 IN NORFOLK (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Aaron Hicks was 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.  Deibinson Romero was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double.

Pitching stars:  Pat Dean pitched 7.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.  Shairon Martis struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Freddy Garcia struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.  Steve Johnson struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.  Jonathan Schoop was 2-for-6 with a double and three RBIs.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  The score was tied at two.  With two out and none on, Chris Dickerson doubled and scored on a Schoop single to right to win the game.

Prospect watch:  Darin Mastroianni was 0-for-6 and scored once.  Eduardo Escobar was 0-for-5.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-5 with a double.

NEW BRITAIN 8, READING 5 IN READING

Batting stars:  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his sixteenth and seventeenth), scoring three times and driving in three.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his twelfth), driving in four.  Angel Morales was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Cole Johnson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.  Dakota Watts struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Troy Hanzawa was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  John Suomi was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.  Maikel Franco was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Fightin Phils had scored two in the sixth to cut the lead from 6-3 to 6-5.  Danny Santana singled, Eddie Rosario walked, and Wilkin Ramirez singled to load the bases with none out.  Sano doubled home two runs to restore a three-run lead for the Rock Cats.

Prospect watch:  Rosario was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Ramirez was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Trevor May pitched 5.2 innings, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

JUPITER 5, FORT MYERS 3 IN JUPITER

Batting stars:  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Pitching star:  Nelvin Fuentes pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Rieger was 3-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Ryan Fisher was 2-for-3 with a walk, two doubles, and an RBI.  Colby Suggs struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing no hits and no walks.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Hammerheads trailed 3-2.  Ross Wilson walked, Rieger doubled, and Jordy Cabrera hit a two-run single to put Jupiter in the lead.  Following a bunt, Wilfredo Gimenez singled to drive home an insurance run.

Prospect watch:  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, KANE COUNTY 0 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting stars:  Joel Licon was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.  Bo Altobelli was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out seven in 7.1 innings, giving up two hits and one walk.  Brian Gilbert pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Sheldon McDonald pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

Key inning:  The fourth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Jorge Polanco reached on an error, advanced on a ground out, and scored from second on a wild pitch to put the Kernels on the board.  With two out, Travis Harrison walked, Altobelli singled, and Licon hit a two-run double.  A pair of errors allowed Licon to score the fourth run of the inning.

Prospect watch:  Polanco was 1-for-5 with a double and scored once.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-5.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a walk.

ELIZABETHTON 5, BURLINGTON 3 IN BURLINGTON

Batting stars:  Zach Larson was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Andre Martinez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk.  Carson Goldsmith struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Brandon Peterson struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Kevin McCarthy pitched six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Mauricio Ramos was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, and an RBI.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Twins trailed 3-2.  With one out, Dereck Rodriguez reached on an error and went to third on a double by Haar.  An intentional walk loaded the bases.  Larson then hit a single-and-error, scoring all three runners and putting Elizabethton into the lead.

Prospect watch:  Zach Granite was 1-for-5.  Felix Jorge pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

GCL RED SOX 4, GCL TWINS 2 AT RED SOX

Batting stars:  Nelson Molina was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Ivory Thomas was 1-for-2 with two walks.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Zach Hayden pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.   Seth Wagner pitched two perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Jake Drehoff started and pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Enfember Martinez pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  Nick Longhi was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins trailed 2-1.  Singles by Jonatan Hinojosa, Molina, and Thomas loaded the bases with one out.  A force out tied the score, but that was all the Twins got.  In the bottom of the inning, Jordan Austin hit a two-out double and scored on an error to put the Red Sox back in front 3-2.

Prospect watch:  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Alex Swim was 1-for-4.  Adonis Pacheco was 0-for-4.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Twins trailed 2-0.  Dubal Baez walked, Manuel Guzman singled, and a double steal moved runners to second and third.  A ground out scored one, Rainis Silva drew a two-out walk, and Jose Parra and Martinez each delivered RBI singles to put the Twins ahead.
