2013 Game 135: Twins at Rangers

Kevin Correia vs. Travis Blackley

I find myself wanting to see a game today, but I'll catch maybe an hour before I have to run to work. At least I'll see one or maybe two of Alex Presley's at-bats!

The Twins have to go 15-13 now to avoid the 90-loss plateau, so I'm thinking that ship is sailing pretty quick here. We'll have to hitch our postseason hopes on Morneau or something, or at least get into the AL playoff races (the NL, barring some major comebacks, looks to have its five teams pretty well set).

  1. I'm watching Mountie play against the Cardinals and they're down 5-0 in the 3rd. He must feel like he never left Minnesota!

    1. More likely, since he seems to really love Minnesota, he just wanted to bring a little piece with him.

  2. Im mean, that was just an AWFUL send by Vavra.

    Ullgeresque

(unless Mastrioanni blew through a stop sign)

  3. this has gotta be the poorest lineup the Twins have trotted since since Sept 27 2011

    Span-CF
    Revere-LF
    Valencia-3B
    Parmelee-1B
    Plouffe-SS
    Tosoni-DH
    Benson-RF
    Tolbert-2B
    Rivera-C

    1. At least today's lineup has Dozier (never would have thought it after last year's SS debacle), Willingham (DH is his best defensive position) and Pinto (heir apparent! Move Mauer to third!!!). S

Hindsight is 20/20, I guess. That was a decent-looking, young outfield that I would have thought had a good chance at being major pieces for at least a couple years. Oops.
Plouffe is the only one listed still getting every-day starts anywhere(I think), and we all know how borderline he is.

        1. I'm not saying he's terrible, but his glove at third is. I wish he'd been a corner outfielder for the last couple seasons instead of trotting Doumit and the AAAA-guys out there game after game.

      1. maybe a more compareable lineup is this one from Sept 25 2005

        Tyner-LF
        Castro-3B (!!!!)
        Cuddyer-RF
        LeCroy-DH
        Ford-CF
        Tiffee-1B
        Heintz-C
        Rivas-2B
        Bartlett-SS

    2. Pretty much any Mauerless lineup the Twins run out there is going to look like that. Might as well put the young guys out there and see what we see.

      1. there hasnt been to many lineup over the years where either Mauer or Morneau (and farther back Hunter) were not penciled in.

          1. buth not really at the same time

            2010 batting orders

also Cuddyer, Thome, Kubel were still on the team. There were some bad lineups, but not the awfulness what what today's looked like (how the hell did the Twins win this one?!)

  4. If the next Ranger drives the ball I might find something else to do. The Twins are on a very short leash for me today.

  5. Flashback to the idyllic days when Gameday had silence between innings...

    /* hits mute button */

  6. The Twins have scored three runs in the same inning. We need to check and see if the rules allow this.

  7. I certainly hope that Terry Ryan is smart enough not to be influenced by the fact that Alex Presley has a good series in AAA when Ryan happened to be there.

  8. How is it that Blackley could pitch without sleeves with such extensive tattoos on his pitching arm?
    Zumaya had to wear sleeves.

    1. Went to Austin, Tejas last year - everyone - not kidding you - had one arm fully covered in TATs. Felt naked.

  9. I'm stuffed up and my throat is sore, so a Cup-O-Noodles is the only thing that sounds good right now, but it keeps fogging up my glasses. Sure, they're only reading glasses and I could easily manage without them, but man nothing going right today (game excepted)

  10. Clearly, Mauer and Morneau had been holding this team back. Now that those two bums are out of the lineup, there's no stopping us! We're still on track for 86-76!
