  1. I understand not liking some of the teams, but if we just want to see good baseball, I think we're going to see a lot of it in both the ALCS and the NLCS.

    1. I haven't watched much, but I think Dodgers/Cardinals and Detroit/Boston should both be good. I'm pulling for a Central Time Series, but NYY lovers would be rather verklempt to see BOS/LAD, so there's that.

      1. I'm pulling for a Central Time Series
Too bad the Rangers didn't make the postseason, as that was the AL's only team from this time zone.

veiled jab at Twins, Royals, White Sox and Astros?

          1. I thought about including the Royals, but since the Rangers had a playoff game (so they could play in a play-in game), opted to not.

      2. I'm not sure I'm prepared for a potential BOS World Series, but I'd hate to see Cabrerra or ii get in, so I'm conflicted about the AL.

I think at this point, I'd like to see the Dodgers win with Puig as WS MVP so that all those GOMFL'ers look stupid.

          1. yeah, when it comes to particular players, I can root for the team and also root that that player contributes absolutely nothing and is an embarrassment in the series

    1. Is there as much standing corn down there as there is up here? If so, combined with that cold, wet spring, it may be some tough hunting this weekend.

      1. a lot of farmer got into the field last week, and the ground dried up enough after the weekends rains to get back out there Wednesday or so.
I havent been out of town since Tuesday so I have no idea how much is down. But, there is a lot of grasslands in the area I guess that helps. The city decommissioned a sewage pond last year and turned it into hunting grounds. I guess there are many pheasants and turkeys moved out towards that area.

        1. One of the guys in my office headed down towards the Slayton/Lake Shetek SP area today so I'll know next week how things are looking. I probably won't get out for a few more weeks (if at all).

Rhu - I've often wondered how well those pen-to-field birds do re: long term viability/population growth or subsequent wild breeding. Any idea?

          1. We've had two bad years in a row in Wabasso. I'm worried about this year too. There's some CRP land that used to give us a few every year, but both of the last years we walked through without kicking up a single bird, much less a rooster.

            1. That was my experience the past two years as well. Seems like there's fewer birds* and I know there's less CRP.

*instate...can't afford the out-of-state licenses for S. Dakota/Nebraska. actually, can't afford the trip.

              1. I haven't been out of the cities in a while.
The area near the Coon Rapids Dam doesn't have as many pheasants as it did three or four years ago, but troops of turkeys are a daily occurence.

Neighbor across the street went out this morning, and got some birds, only one rooster though.
(Via my eldest two who stopped over and looked at the birds. No idea where they hunted.)

    2. My hometown used to have a lot of ring-necked in the area, and after folks noted that they had dropped quite a bit, several farmers (including us) bought eggs and raised chicks and then turned loose. We put 50 of them in the copses and tree lines, and saw several along road ditches in the years following.

    1. This is a little embarrassing for the league:

The Dream, forced to move the elimination game to the northern suburbs with their home court booked for an ice skating event, dropped to 6-16 outside Philips Arena.

That ice-skating event was "Disney on Ice". So, the company that is the league's broadcast partner scheduled an ice-skating event in the home arena of one of the best teams in the league during the WNBA finals and it bumped the game? Nice.

      1. Disney on Ice is scheduled months ago, so it's not like they knew there'd be a conflict at the time. And I know it's forced other high-visibility events to reschedule as well.

        1. right. The Spurs get to go on an almost-month-long road trip every year (regular season, but still) because of a rodeo. But I still agree that it is bad press for the league, and a sign of the league's lack of financial clout.

          1. That sort of thing is probably more damaging for lower profile sports because they only get limited press anyway and it's not great to have a story like that when you finally do grab some attention. Still, moving to the suburbs seems better than the Marlins' 3 "home" games in Seattle on account of U2.

    1. That sounds like my mom, she is always complaining about how expensive groceries are. Maybe that's why I can't get too mad at TR.

    1. His two-year-old son was attacked in Sioux Falls. I'd seen a note yesterday that said he'd been seen in Sioux Falls and no one knew why he was there. I guess now we know.

        1. I'm going to go watch the video I took of the Trinket juggling and watch that above gif to feel better and try not to think what could get someone to do that to a frickin 2 year old.

          1. I know someone personally who did that to a 1 year old and I know that persons parents as well and I have a really good idea of how he became capable of doing it.

  2. Just got word that there's a tornado about 25 miles east of town, near a little town called Seneca. I don't expect it to come this way, but that's still closer to a tornado than I care to be.

            1. i think i was there too, but am possibly misremembering that. didn't bob casey, in an attempt to calm the crowd down, implore them to civility because it was a playoff game (which it wasn't)?

              1. I remember a rather apoplectic plea from Casey, but I don't remember the playoff thing. I remember him telling the fans the Twins could lose by forfeit if they kept it up.

            2. I was there, too, and I was pretty livid. It certainly changed my mind some about Minnesota sports fandom. And Tom Kelly going out and walking Knoblauch back to the dugout was probably the classiest move I've ever seen in baseball. I'll always admire him for that.

      1. I don't care what happened in his post-Twins career, he's still one of my favorite Twins of all time.

          1. While I don't live in a vacuum and will judge celebrities based on stuff I hear from their personal lives, I try not to let it color my enjoyment of their athletic accomplishments, which is mostly why we tune in. For all we know, Kent Hrbek rapes largemouth bass in his basement.

            1. That came off worse than I meant it, sorry, it's a touchy day on the domestic abuse front. I loved Knoblauch as a Twin, but I hate it when these guys make it hard for us to root for them. The same thing goes for Puckett et al.

              1. This. They ARE role models, whether they like it or not. So it hurts when they do something stupid, or worse, evil.

  3. Wish me luck, boys, I've got a hot job interview next week. I really need this one to pan out.

      1. Dido. Knock it out of the park. Unless you are interviewing with Steve Lyons. Then don't kill the rally.

    1. If you need a reference...
"My problem wasn't really as bad as I feared, but [Twayn] came prepared for lots of situations that were much worse and wow was it just great having someone there to say "yeah, that's the right thing to do: it won't ruin it. And if that does ruin it, it was ruined already."
