Venezuelan View: Games of 10/11

A good day for Jermaine Mitchell.  Late-inning scoring ruled the day.  A LEW! sighting.

ARAGUA 4, ZULIA 3 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Jermaine Mitchell (Aragua) was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was 0-for-2.

Zulia:  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.  Roy Merritt struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks.

Aragua:  Guillermo Quiroz was 2-for-4 with a double.

The game:  Zulia scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth to take a 3-0 lead.  Aragua scored three in the seventh to tie it.  In the eighth, a Quiroz double, a wild pitch, and an Alex Nunez single produced the go-ahead run.

CARACAS 9, MARGARITA 7 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Margarita:  Adam Duvall (San Francisco) was 3-for-5 with a two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Caleb Joseph (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  David Peralta (Arizona) was 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Caracas:  Danny Dorn (Detroit) was 3-for-4 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring three times and driving in two.  Steve Susdorf (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  Caracas led 5-2 after three.  Margarita tied it at five in the top of the sixth, but a home run by Gregorio Petit (San Diego) put Caracas back in front 6-5.  In the seventh, Rico Noel (San Diego) tripled and scored and Dorn hit a two-run homer to make it 9-5.  Margarita got two in the ninth and put runners on first and second with two out.

MAGALLANES 6, LARA 4 IN LARA

Twins:  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Magallanes:  Mario Lisson was 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs.  Lew Ford was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  Mitch Lively (San Francisco) pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Lara:  Robert Perez was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Joe Thurston was 2-for-4 with a triple and scored once.  Raul Rivero struck out four in four innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks.

The game:  Lara led 2-1 after seven.  Lisson hit a two-run homer in the eighth to give Magallanes a 3-2 lead.  Magallanes scored three more in the ninth, highlighted by another two-run homer by Lisson, to go up 6-2.  Lara scored two in the bottom of the ninth and put runners on first and second with two out.

LA GUAIRA 10, ANZOATEGUI 4 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Lester Oliveros (Anzoategui) pitched one-third of an inning, giving up three unearned runs on one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

La Guaira:  Luis Sardinas (Texas) was 4-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Cesar Suarez was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Pedro Villareal (Cincinnati) pitched four innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Anzoategui:  Niuman Romero (Baltimore) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  It was tied at two after five.  In the sixth, La Guaira scored three on a single, a hit batsman, an error, a wild pitch, and a two-run single by Sardinas.  Anzoategui never got closer than three runs again.
