Venezuelan View: Games of 10/22

Antoan Richardson leads Margarita to victory.  Deolis Guerra does as much as he can.

ANZOATEGUI 6, ARAGUA 2 IN ANZOATEGUI

TwinsEduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-3.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched one-third of an inning, giving up two runs on one hit and one walk.  Lester Oliveros (Anzoategui) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Aragua:  Guillermo Rodriguez was 2-for-4.

Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.  Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Aragua scored two in the first on a two-run homer by Alex Romero.  They still led 2-1 until the fifth, when Anzoategui came up with four.  With two out and none on, Niuman Romero (Baltimore) hit a home run to tie the score, a single and a walk followed, and Castillo hit a three-run homer to give Anzoategui a 5-2 lead.

MARGARITA 6, LA GUAIRA 3 IN LA GUAIRA

TwinsAntoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.

Margarita:  Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) hit a three-run homer.

La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jose Martinez (Atlanta) was 2-for-4.

The game:  It was scoreless in the third when Richardson hit a two-run triple and scored on a sacrifice fly to put Margarita ahead 3-0.  Hernandez hit a three-run homer in the fifth to make it 6-0.  La Guaira came back with three in their half of the fifth.

MAGALLANES 4, CARACAS 2 IN MAGALLANES

TwinsDeolis Guerra (Magallanes) retired the only batter he faced.

Caracas:  Danny Dorn (Detroit) was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Magallanes:  Lew Ford hit a home run.  Mario Lisson hit a home run, his fifth.

The game:  It was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the third when Ford and Lisson hit back-to-back homers.  Caracas did not threaten until the ninth, when they put runners on second and third with none out.

ZULIA 7, LARA 6 IN LARA

Zulia:  Ali Castillo (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.  Roy Merritt struck out five in 5.2 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks.

Lara:  Jose Yepez (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Red Patterson (Dodgers) pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Lara scored single runs in the first and third to go ahead 2-0.  They still led 2-1 after six.  Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) hit a two-run homer in the seventh to give Zulia a 3-2 lead.  Zulia added four more in the eighth on a triple, a walk, and three singles, including a two-run single by Luis Ugueto.  Lara came back with four in the ninth to cut the lead to 7-6 and got two runners on with two out.
