Fall Festival: Games of 10/22

A good inning for A. J. Achter.  Zack Jones continues to struggle.

SCOTTSDALE 5, GLENDALE 1 IN GLENDALE

Twins:  Max Kepler was 0-for-3 with a walk.  A. J. Achter struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.  Zack Jones pitched one inning, giving up two runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Scottsdale:  Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Adalberto Mejia (San Francisco) struck out five in 3.1 scoreless innings, giving up one  hit and no walks.

Glendale:  Andrew Heaney (Miami) pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  The score was tied at one after five.  In the sixth, Scottsdale scored two runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.  In the ninth, Scottsdale got two more on another sacrifice fly and a double steal of second and home.

SURPRISE 4, MESA 2 IN SURPRISE

Mesa:  Kris Bryant (Cubs) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Tommy Collier (Detroit) struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Surprise:  Tyler Naquin was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Eduardo Rodriguez struck out three in three innings, allowing one run on one hit and two walks.

The game:  It was tied 1-1 after six.  In the top of the seventh, Albert Almora (Cubs) singled in a run to put Mesa up 2-1.  In the bottom half, Joe Wendle (Cleveland) hit a two-run triple to give Surprise the lead and later came around to score an insurance run.  Mesa did not get the tying run on base.

PEORIA 5, SALT RIVER 3 IN SALT RIVER

Peoria:  Japhet Amador (Houston) was 3-for-5.  Chris Taylor (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Cameron Rupp (Philadelphia) was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Salt River:  Derrick Chung (Toronto) was 3-for-3 with a walk.  Kyle Parker (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his second), driving in two.

The game:  Peoria scored three in the third to break a scoreless tie.  Taylor tripled in a run, Cory Spangenberg (San Diego) singled in a run, and Rupp capped the inning with an RBI double.  Salt River cut the lead to 5-3 with a two-run sixth.  Salt River loaded the bases with two out in the seventh and put two on with none out in the ninth.
