Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/10

A wild game in Guasave.  Shutouts in Hermosillo and Navojoa.  Culiacan Cruzes to victory.

LOS MOCHIS 12, GUASAVE 11 IN GUASAVE

Los Mochis:  Jake Fox was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer (his third) and three runs.  Adan Velazquez was 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs.  Saul Soto was 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs.

Guasave:  Mark Hamilton was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in four.  Eduardo Arredondo was 3-for-5 with three runs.  Zelous Wheeler was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his seventh.

The game:  Los Mochis scored two in the second, five in the third, and five in the fourth to build a 12-1 lead.  Guasave came back with four in the sixth and six in the seventh to make it 12-11.  Guasave had the tying run on third in that seventh inning.

MAZATLAN 2, HERMOSILLO 0 IN HERMOSILLO

Mazatlan:  Walter Ibarra was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a run.  Ryan Hinson (Atlanta) pitched 6.1 innings, giving up five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Yunesky Sanchez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Barry Enright pitched 7.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Issmael Salas hit an RBI single in the first.  It stayed 1-0 until the eighth, when Oswaldo Morejon hit an RBI single.  The closest Hermosillo came to scoring was the seventh, when they got a man to third with one out.

NAVOJOA 3, OBREGON 0 IN NAVOJOA

Obregon:  Rolando Valdez struck out seven in 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks.

Navojoa:  Rolando Acosta was 2-for-4 with a run.  Luis Fonseca was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his third), driving in two.  Salvador Robles struck out seven in seven innings, allowing three hits and one walk.

The game:  Fonseca homered leading off the fourth to put Navojoa ahead 1-0.  Navojoa added two in the seventh on three singles and two bases-loaded walks.  Obregon only got one man as far as second base.

CULIACAN 7, MEXICALI 2 IN CULIACAN

Mexicali:  Ramon Rios was 2-for-5.  Russell Branyan was 0-for-0 with four walks.

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-2 with two walks and a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Ronnier Mustelier was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Alejandro Armenta pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Culiacan led 2-1 after one.  Oscar Robles hit an RBI single in the fourth to tie it at two.  Culiacan got two in the fifth on a two-run homer by Luis Cruz to go into the lead to stay.  They added three more in the sixth to take control.
