Fall Festival: Games of 11/12

A flock of Blue Jays flies Salt River to victory.  A pair of four-run innings leads to a Surprsing comeback.  Mesa can play in Peoria.

SALT RIVER 7, GLENDALE 2 IN SALT RIVER

Twins:  None.  No wonder Glendale lost.

Glendale:  Brian Cavazos-Galvez (Dodgers) was 2-for-4.

Salt River:  Kenny Wilson (Toronto) was 2-for-5 with a triple and a two-run homer (his second), scoring twice.  Derrick Chung (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Drew Hutchison (Toronto) struck out four in four innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks.

The game:  Salt River took a 3-1 lead after one.  The Wilson homer came in the fourth and was part of a three-run inning that made the score 7-1.

SURPRISE 9, SCOTTSDALE 7 IN SURPRISE

Scottsdale:  Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Robby Hefflinger (Atlanta) was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.  Cory Vaughn (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

Surprise:  Travis Shaw (Boston) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jorge Alfaro (Texas) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Joe Wendle (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with two runs.

The game:  Peter O'Brien (Yankees) hit a two-run single as part of a four-run third that put Scottsdale up 6-1.  Ryan Rua (Texas) hit a grand slam in the fourth to make it 6-5 and Surprise scored four more in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead.  Scottsdale scored once in the ninth and got the tying run on base with none out.

MESA 8, PEORIA 1 IN MESA

Peoria:  Delino DeShields (Houston) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double.

Mesa:  C. J. Cron (Angels) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and drove in two.  Max Muncy (Oakland) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Blaine Hardy (Detroit) pitched four shutout innings, allowing four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Four singles and three walks led to a three-run second that gave Mesa a 4-0 lead.  Mesa eventually led 8-0 before Peoria scored its lone run in the eighth.
