Venezuelan View: Games of 11/12

Eduardo Escobar continues to hit.  Some lopsided games.  The Fonz wins it for Magallanes.

ANZOATEGUI 11, ARAGUA 0 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Josmil Pinto (Aragua) was 0-for-3.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up two unearned runs on one hit and one walk.  Aaron Thompson (Aragua) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and no walks.

Anzoategui:  Cory Aldridge was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Gorkys Hernandez was 2-for-6 with a double and a triple, scoring once and driving in three.  Chris Smith pitched seven innings, giving up five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Aragua:  Hector Gimenez was 2-for-3.  Yangervis Solarte was 1-for-1 with two walks.

The game:  Anzoategui scored one in the second and it stayed 1-0 until the sixth.  Hernandez then hit a three-run double to cap a five-run inning and make the score 6-0.  Anzoategui added three in the seventh and two in the eighth.  Aragua did not get a man past second base.

MARGARITA 11, ZULIA 0 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Virgil Vasquez (Zulia) pitched five innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  Carlos Rivero was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run (his third), scoring twice and driving in four.  Max Ramirez was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.  Eric Berger (Houston) pitched six innings, giving up four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Zulia:  Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-4.

The game:  Margarita scored four in the second and was never threatened.  They added one in the fifth, two in the sixth, and four in the ninth.  The closest Zulia came to scoring was when they had runners on first and third with two out in the fifth.

MAGALLANES 3, LA GUAIRA 2 IN MAGALLANES (11 INNINGS)

La Guaira:  Jose Gonzalez was 2-for-3.  Andy Wilkins (White Sox) was 2-for-4.  Edgmer Escalona pitched 6.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Eliezer Alfonzo was 2-for-5 with an RBI.  Ezequiel Carrera was 2-for-5 with a run.  Anthony Lerew struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and one walk.

The game:  C. J. Retherford hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give La Guaira a 2-0 lead.  Mario Lisson doubled to drive in Lew Ford and make it 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth.  In the seventh, an RBI double by Robinson Chirinos tied the score at two.  In the eleventh, Alfonzo singled with the bases loaded and two out to give Magallanes the victory.

LARA 9, CARACAS 1 IN CARACAS

Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.  Nick Buss (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in four.  Red Patterson (Dodgers) struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on one hit and two walks.

Caracas:  The team had only two hits, both singles.

The game:  An error led to five unearned Lara runs in the fourth.  Anderson De La Rosa had a two-run double in the inning.  Lara got one in the fifth and three in the eighth to make it 9-0.  The lone Caracas run came in the bottom of the eighth.
