Dominican Digest: Games of 11/30

A big day for Danny Santana.  A five-run first didn't get Licey down.  Oriente celebrated Thanksgiving weekend with Pie.

ESTE 6, AGUILAS 5 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Chris Colabello (Este) was 1-for-4 with a run.  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 4-for-5 with a double and two runs.

Este:  Hector Gomez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his third and fourth) and five RBIs.  Joey Terdoslavich was 2-for-4 with a triple and two runs.  Angelys Nina (Colorado) was 2-for-4.

Aguilas:  Jermaine Curtis (St. Louis) was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Wilin Rosario (Colorado) was 1-for-4 with a home run, his third.

The game:  Gomez hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Este a 3-1 lead.  Aguilas came back with in the fifth, tying the score on an error and taking a 4-3 lead on a Dan Black RBI double.  Rosario homered in the sixth to make it 5-3 Aguilas.  In the eighth, a single, a strikeout/wild pitch with two down, and a three-run homer by Gomez put Este back in front 6-5.  Aguilas got a pair of one-out singles in the ninth, but the last two batters struck out to end the game.

ORIENTE 5, ESCOGIDO 1 IN ORIENTE

Twins:  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-4.  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 0-for-4.

Escogido:  Gregory Polanco (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a run.  Melky Mesa was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Julio Lugo was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Oriente:  Felix Pie (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Alfredo Marte (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Andrew Sisco struck out seven in 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk.

The game:  Pie hit a two-run single in a three-run third for Oriente to give them a 3-0 lead.  Marte hit an RBI double in a two-run fifth to make it 5-0.  Escogido got a run in the sixth and brought the tying run up to bat with two out in the ninth.

LICEY 12, CIBAO 9 IN LICEY

Cibao:  Moises Sierra (Toronto) was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Francisco Peguero was 1-for-5 with a home run (his second) and four RBIs.  Francisco Soriano (Washington) was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.

Licey:  Engel Beltre (Texas) was 4-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two.  Christian Bethancourt was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  Ruben Sosa (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring three times.

The game:  Peguero hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run first for Cibao.  Licey came back with two in the bottom of the first, but Cibao got one more in the top of the second to make it 6-2.  In the bottom of the second, Victor Diaz hit a two-run single and Bethancourt got a two-run double in a seven-run inning that put Licey ahead 9-6.  Back-to-back homers by Oscar Tejeda and Soriano made it 10-8 in the top of the fourth, but an error and an RBI single by Beltre got the runs back for Licey, giving them an 12-8 lead.  That was all the scoring until the ninth, when Cibao got its final tally and got the tying run up to bat with one out.
