Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/30

Guasave was Zelous in pursuit of victory.  Los Mochis can't get to third base.  Culiacan takes over late.

GUASAVE 5, NAVOJOA 2 IN GUASAVE

Navojoa:  Carlos Orrantia was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Luis Fonseca was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his sixth.  Jose Oyervidez pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Guasave:  Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his ninth), scoring twice and driving in three.  Eduardo Arredondo was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.  Sergio Mora pitched six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Each team scored one in the first and each team scored one in the fourth.  Guasave got the go-ahead run in the sixth on a double play.  They added two in the eighth on a two-run homer by Wheeler.

HERMOSILLO 5, OBREGON 2 IN OBREGON

Hermosillo:  Jesse Gutierrez was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his ninth), scoring twice.  Jesus Loya (Boston) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Pablo Menchaca pitched five shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Obregon:  Barbaro Canizares was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double, driving in one.  Dan Robertson (San Diego) was 1-for-3 with two walks.  Arturo Lopez (San Diego) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and no walks.

The game:  It was scoreless until the seventh, when a double, a single, a double, and a single produced three runs for Hermosillo.  Obregon never got the score closer than that, but they got the tying run up to bat in the eighth and the ninth.

MEXICALI 4, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN MEXICALI

Los Mochis:  Jake Fox was 2-for-4.  Jamie Johnson (Detroit) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Mexicali:  Ricky Alvarez was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his sixth), scoring twice.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his sixth.  Edgar Osuna pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Guez put Mexicali on the board in the first with a solo homer.  An RBI double by Cristhian Presichi was followed by an error that made it 3-0 after two and Alvarez homered in the third to complete the scoring.  Los Mochis did not get a man past second base.

CULIACAN 5, MAZATLAN 1 IN MAZATLAN

Culiacan:  Ronnier Mustelier (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and three runs.  Jorge Cantu was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.  Francisco Campos pitched 7.1 innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Mazatlan:  Steve Moss was 2-for-4 with a run.  Issmael Salas was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The game:  Culiacan scored in the first, but Mazatlan tied it at one in the second.  It was still tied in the sixth when a hit batsman, a single, and two walks put Culiacan up 2-1.  Mustelier hit a two-run homer in the seventh to make it 4-1 and an RBI single by Ali Solis (Tampa Bay) in the eighth made it 5-1.  Mazatlan did not get a hit after a leadoff single in the seventh.
