    1. With that draw and Fulham and Crystal Palace losses, Sunderland can be out of the relegation spots with a win this afternoon.

They probably won't win, but the opportunity is nice.

    2. Tomorrow's Liverpool-Chelsea match could be a good one. I've never been a Liverpool fan, but they've been great to watch this season.

  1. Wolfson is reporting the Twins have interest in Tanaka. With there being a limit on the post bids ($20M?), won't several teams be making max bids, and if that's the case, who gets to negotiate? Is it all of them and then whoever lands Tanaka pays the posting fee?

  2. Well, due to a very, very cranky baby, we're skipping the Gasthaus tonight, opting to stay in and have some fresh caught perch. I almost grabbed a bock of some sort as a consolation prize, but opted for some of this instead. Worked out just fine.

    1. back from Santa Fe.

while at the Bobcat Santa Fe Bite, I had a pint of this (excellent). And bilL and I made a shopping run to Whole Paycheck, where, among other things, we acquired a sixer of this, which is one of America's great beers, IMO.

        1. I stopped into Total Wine and a full-timer there who I've gotten to know pointed out that a growler of Dead Guy was 6.99, in order to make room for something else. I took advantage, but this morning wasn't great. I haven't done that to myself in a while. Oh well.

  3. so, we come home from a week away. The Mrs does a quick check on bank balances (because Target), and discovers that our checking account is zeroed out, our savings account is waaaay down, and we've been assessed an overdraft charge. CRISIS!!!

uhh, oops. Before we left, I sent the paperwork in to open a custodial 529 account for the Girl, rolling over some money from a UGMA account to our checking, to the 529. Seems that the good folks at California Scholarshare (TIAA-CREF, IIRC) made the withdrawal twice. Good work, guys.

  4. also, saw Nebraska on thursday. It hit a little too close to home. Those were my people.

only half joaking. Good film. Not sure that I would call it "fun", but there were a few laugh-out-loud moments. We also saw it on what appeared to be a crappy transfer print to filmstock. Lots of crackle and hiss and physical flaws, which I and several others in our party took to be intentional (and somewhat mood-setting, rather than distracting), but the Boy (film studies major) insisted were NOT, as it deviates so much from the clips available on teh Interwebs, where the black-and-white is crisp.

    1. Clips available on teh Interwebs might be leaked, and might have been so before they were "treated." I haven't seen it so I won't make any kind of call, but before any film is made to look cheap and old, it's shot to look flawless. Audio and visual issues aren't likely to happen in the digital age of cinema, so I'm willing to lean toward intentional until the Blu-Ray comes out and proves me wrong.

      1. He claimed that it was projected on film, not digital. I find this highly unlikely (Devargas Center in Santa Fe, a UA theater--seems very unlikely that they would not have digital projectors...but I dunno). But there were very visible "switch the reel" cues.
