Minor Details: Games of May 3

Yohan Pino was awesome again.  Aaron Slegers was very good, too.  Kennys Vargas hits his six homer.

ROCHESTER 2, LOUISVILLE 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Doug Bernier was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a run.

Pitching star:  Yohan Pino pitched a complete game shutout, giving up three hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Chien-Ming Wang pitched 7.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  A pair of errors gave Rochester a gift run in the first.  Their other run came in the seventh, when Ramirez singled, took second on a ground out, and scored on a Bernier double.  Pino did not allow a baserunner until the fifth.  The fifth was the only really scoring threat Louisville had.  A single and a ground out put a man on second with two out.  The runner was then thrown out at the plate trying to score on an infield single.

Of note:  Eric Farris was 1-for-4 with a run.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-2 with two walks.  James Beresford was 1-for-4.  Pino has made seven appearances, three of them starts.  Two of his starts have been complete game shutouts, although one was of the seven-inning variety.

NEW BRITAIN 6, NEW HAMPSHIRE 5 IN NEW BRITAIN (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run, his sixth.  Tony Thomas was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, his second.  Mike Kvasnicka was 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his second.

Pitching stars:  Pat Dean pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Cole Johnson struck out two in two perfect innings.  Jim Fuller struck out three in two innings, giving up an unearned run on two hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  A. J. Jimenez was 3-for-6 with a double and a home run, scoring twice.  Jon Berti was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Kevin Nolan was 1-for-4 with a walk and two runs.

The game:  Kvasnicka hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give New Britain a 3-2 lead.  New Hampshire tied it in the sixth when Jimenez dobled and scored on a Mike Crouse single.  A sacrifice fly gave the Fisher Cats a 4-3 lead in the tenth, but Vargas hit a two-out homer in the bottom of the tenth to tie it up.  In the twelfth, a walk and two errors put New Hampshire ahead 5-4, but in the bottom of the tenth Thomas hit a two-run walkoff homer for the Rock Cats.

Of note:  Corey Wimberley was 2-for-5 with a walk and two runs.  Nate Hanson was 0-for-3.  Matt Koch was 1-for-4.

PALM BEACH 10, FORT MYERS 3 IN PALM BEACH

Batting stars:  Levi Michael was 4-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Stuart Turner was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Anthony Garcia was 1-for-4 with a walk and a three-run homer, his sixth.  Jacob Wilson was 2-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring twice.  Breyvic Valera was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  David Washington hit a two-run double in a five-run first that put this one away early.  Fort Myers never got closer than four runs, and when Garcia hit a three-run homer in the eighth any thoughts of a comeback were ended.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Mike Gonzales was 1-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4.  Starter Alex Wimmers struck out four in 3.2 innings but surrendered six runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, PEORIA 0 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 with a walk and two runs.  Chad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.

PItching stars:  Aaron Slegers pitched seven innings, giving up four hits and two walks with six strikeouts.  Alex Muren pitched a perfect inning.  Brandon Peterson pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ronald Castillo was 2-for-4 with a double.  Blake McKnight pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Chris Perry struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  J. D, Williams doubled in Vielma in the third to give Cedar Rapids a 1-0 lead.  Ivory Thomas singled in Christensen in the fourth to make it 2-0.  Vielma and Logan Wade doubled in the eighth to make it 3-0.  The closest Peoria came to scoring was the fifth, when a single, a walk, and an error loaded the base with two out.

Of note:  Williams was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-4.
