  1. Joe Saunders is getting the Twins to miss the sweet spot of the bat by theeeeeese much. Lazy pop flyballs the result.

    1. He's like the third base version of Vlad. Not quite the same freakish ability to make contact, but close.

      1. I can't imagine anyone has ever had the same freakish ability to hit balls nowhere near the strike zone that Vlad did. Some of the pitches he hit (and hit HARD) were insane.

I wonder if there's a megamix of Vlad hitting terrible pitches.

        1. Pardon me, as I know I've told this story before. I once saw with my own two eyes Vlad (while with the Expos) golf a shin-high, outside-black pitch over the CF fence at Miller Park. I've never been as dumbstruck as I was watching that ball leave the park. Truly a sight to behold.

          1. I never got to see Vlad in a game, much less see one of his "why would you even swing at that?" homeruns live. I envy you.

        2. It's unfortunate that the PitchF/X era came just after the peaks of many all-time greats. I think if we had a couple seasons worth of data on Maddux in his prime, our knowledge of pitching would be significantly improved. Likewise, I would love to see a chart of Vlad's swing tendencies.

  2. Seriously, what moron in the Twins dugout called for that challenge? It wasn't even close.
