Minor Details: Games of June 5

A Rochester rally gets killed too soon.  A super outing by Sean Gilmartin.  Comeback wins for Fort Myers and the DSL Twins.

CHARLOTTE 7, ROCHESTER 6 IN CHARLOTTE

Batting starsDaniel Ortiz was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer, his second.  Brad Nelson was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Wilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching starTrevor May struck out nine in six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Charlie Leesman pitched eight shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.  Marcus Semien was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Jordan Danks was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, his sixth.

The game:  There was no score until the fifth, when Charlotte scored three times.  In the eighth, Danks hit a two-run homer and Blake Tekotte hit a two-run double to make it 7-0 Knights.  Rochester mounted a ninth-inning comeback.  They started the inning with six hits, as James Beresford and Deibinson Romero singled, Chris Colabello doubled, Nelson and Ramirez singled, and Ortiz hit a three-run homer.  Unfortunately, that killed the rally, as the next three batters went out in order to end the game.

Of noteEric Farris was 0-for-5.  Romero was 1-for-4 with a run.  Colabello was 1-for-4 with a run, scoring once and driving in one.  Pedro Florimon was 0-for-4.

NEW BRITAIN 1, AKRON 0 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsBrad Boyer was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Tony Thomas was 1-for-3 with a home run, his fifth.

Pitching starsSean Gilmartin struck out eight in 7.1 innings, giving up five hits and no walks.  Cole Johnson pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jordan Smith was 2-for-3.  Cody Anderson pitched six shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

The game:  The only run of the game came on the home run by Thomas in the seventh.  Akron's biggest threat came in the fourth, when Francisco Lindor led off with a single, stole second, went to third on a bunt, but was thrown out at the plate on a ground ball to first.  A single by Ronny Rodriguez put men on first and third, but the Rubber Ducks did not score.

Of noteCorey Wimberly was 0-for-3.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3.

FORT MYERS 4, LAKELAND 3 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsTravis Harrison was 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a run.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching starsTim Shibuya pitched four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Brandon Peterson pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit with one strikeout.  Tyler Jones struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  James Robbins was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Brennan Smith struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

The game:  Lakeland opened the game with three singles and took a 2-0 lead.  Fort Myers tied it with single runs in the fourth and fifth.  The Flying Tigers got a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to take a 3-2 lead.  The Miracle opened the seventh with three singles to tie the score and later in the inning got a sacrifice fly to take the lead.  Lakeland went down in order in each of the last two innings.

Of noteJorge Polanco was 1-for-5.  Stephen Wickens was 1-for-5 with a run.  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-4 with a run.  Lance Ray was 1-for-3 with a walk.

WISCONSIN 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN WISCONSIN

Batting starsBryan Haar was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Bo Altobelli was 2-for-4 with a run.  Michael Quesada was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsFernando Romero struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk.  Alex Muren struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Michael Ratterree was 2-forr-3 witth a walk and a homee rrun.  Johnny Davis was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.  Angel Ortega was 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs.

The game:  Three singles and a wild pitch resulted in two Cedar Rapids runs in the third to take a 2-1 lead.  Ratterree homeerreed in the fifth to tie it up.  Wisconsin put the game away with a five-run sixth highlighted by a two-run single by Davis.  The Kernels got two in the eighth but did not bring the tying run up to bat.

Of noteJon Murphy was 0-for-5.  Chad Christensen was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run.

DSL TWINS 5, DSL REDS 3 AT TWINS

Batting starsAntonio Tovar was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Roni Tapia was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk, driving in one.

Pitching starsJose Martinez pitched two shutout innings, giving up a hit with one strikeout.  Argenis Silva struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Erick Gabo was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Tomas De Los Santos was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Franklin Montilla pitched five innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

The game:  Gabo hit a two-run double in the first to give the Reds a 2-0 lead.  Sucre Doval tripled and scored to make it 3-0 in the fifth.  The Twins got one back in the bottom of the fifth, but it was still 3-1 through seven.  In the eighth, two errors led to four Twins runs to give them a 5-3 lead.  Tapia tripled in a run in the inning.  The Reds went down in order in the ninth.

Of noteEmmanuel Morel was 1-for-4.   Lewin Diaz was 0-for-4.  Eugenio Diaz was 0-for-4.  Junior Amarante was 0-for-4 with a run.  Starter Jadison Jimenez struck out seven in five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks.
