June 22, 2014: Worth a Shot

My friends at work, Rob and Joh, head to Brazil today with a couple of other friends. They got their plane and hotel tickets months ago but Joh failed to actually get any tickets to the World Cup matches. Well...it's still Brazil.

  1. Poor Joe Nathan. Last night he got the first two out easy, then three straight batters got to two strike and he couldnt get and out and the Clevelanders tied the game. But, he knows how to win because the Tigers score 1 in the tenth.
For as bad as the Tigers are in closing games, the LAAAAAAAAA team blew their 13th save of the year last night. Woooof.

    1. yea, my buddy the Fruit Doctor is a big Angels fan. He has been in full-blown whine mode about their bullpen. It's so bad, we've even stopped making fun of Josh Hamilton's and Pujols' contracts.

  2. “Batting average is probably the most overrated stat in baseball,” said Dozier. “Your job is to get on base, so you want to keep your OBP up. You obviously want a good OPS as well. Scoring runs and driving them in are the most important things.”

Not a lot a new info, but nice nugget about Dozier at FanGraphs

  3. Third catcher here we come!

Gardy Show: #mntwins could drop a pitcher, add a position player for road trip.

    1. Isn't there a shortstop they could bring up? Preferably one who can't actually play shortstop?

    1. Cafardo wouldn’t be surprised to see Minnesota try to extend the slugger.

Just what the Twins need, an actual DH instead of D"OF"H.

  4. Trey's All-Star team survived a thriller, rallying to win it in the bottom of the sixth and final inning. Trey went 1-for-3 and made a nice play to throw out a runner at home, although it was with two outs, so he probably should have gone to first for a little bit easier play. He played at pitcher for the entire game. A kid that struck out in every at-bat the first two games got two hits, including the walkoff hit that went almost all the way to the wall with one out in the sixth. His first hit came with two outs in the second inning and ignited a five-run inning. Trey's Newmark team led for much of the game, but only led by one run going into the top of the sixth.
