Venezuelan View: Games of October 28

A shutout in Navojoa.  An almost-shutout in Jalisco.  A good game for Eric Farris.

OBREGON 8, JALISCO 4 IN JALISCO

Twins:  Corey Wimberly was 0-for-5 for Obregon.

Obregon:  Carlos Valencia was 2-for-4 with a triple, and double, and a walk, scoring three times and driving in one.  Donald Lutz (Cincinnati) was 2-for-5 with a home run (his third) and a double, driving in three.  Irwin Delgado pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and four walks with five strikeouts.

Jalisco:  Jose Manuel Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.  Ivan Araujo was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.

The game:  Obregon led 4-0 after five and eventually built an 8-0 lead before Jalisco scored four in the ninth.

NAVOJOA 6, CULIACAN 0 IN NAVOJOA

Twins:  Eric Farris was 2-for-4.

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Arturo Barradas pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Navojoa:  Reggie Abercrombie was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and a double.  Luis Fonseca was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second.  Eddie Gamboa (Baltimore) pitched eight shutout innings, allowing six hits and no walks with six strikeouts.

The game:  With Navojoa leading 2-0, Fonseca hit a two-run homer in a three-run sixth that put the game out of reach.

HERMOSILLO 7, MEXICALI 6 IN HERMOSILLO

Mexicali:  Walter Ibarra (Dodgers) was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Shane Peterson (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Yair Lozoya pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Hermosillo:  Yunesky Sanchez was 4-for-4 with a home run (his second) and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Justin Greene (Arizona) was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Demetrio Gutierrez pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and a walk.

The game:  Mexicali scored six runs in the first three innings to take a 6-0 lead.  It was 6-3 after seven, but Hermosillo scored four runs in the eighth to take the lead.  Jesus Loya (Boston) doubled in the tying run and the winning run scored on a wild pitch.

MAZATLAN 2, LOS MOCHIS 0 IN MAZATLAN

Los Mochis:  Justin Christian (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4.  Juan Carlos Gamboa was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Tomas Solis pitched six innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Mazatlan:  Jesus Castillo was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Erick Rodriguez was 2-for-2 with an RBI.  Jose Contreras pitched six shutout innings, allowing six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Three singles produced a run in the second and a sacrifice fly brought one home in the fifth.  The best Los Mochis chance came in the first, when they loaded the bases with two out.
