Venezuelan View: Games of October 31

Zulia builds a big lead and holds on.  A six-run inning makes the difference for Margarita.  Orlando Arcia doubles Anzoategui to victory.

ZULIA 8, CARACAS 7 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Ryan O'Rourke struck out the only man he faced for Zulia.

Zulia:  Carlos Moncrief (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring three times.  Silvino Bracho (Arizona) pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

Caracas:  Aharon Eggleston was 3-for-4 with a home run and a double, driving in four.  Danry Vasquez (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring three times and driving in one.  Victor Larez (Detroit) struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and one walk.

The game:  Aaron Altherr (Philadelphia) had a two-run double as part of a four-run fourth and Moncrief doubled in two in a three-run fifth that gave Zulia an 8-0 lead.  Caracas scored three in the sixth, two in the seventh, and two in the ninth and had the bases loaded with two out in the ninth.

MARGARITA 11, LA GUAIRA 6 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Aaron Hicks was used as a pinch-runner by Margarita but did not bat.

La Guaira:  Tyler Henson (Philadelphia) was 1-for-2 with three walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Jose Martinez (Atlanta) was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Eudis Idrogo (Detroit) pitched a perfect inning.

Margarita:  David Peralta (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, scoring once and driving in four.  Mario Yepez (Seattle) was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring three times and driving in one.  Luis Chirinos (Dodgers) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  A six-run fourth put Margarita up 8-4 and left them in control of the game.  Peralta had a three-run double in the inning.

LARA 6, ARAGUA 5 IN LARA

Aragua:  Renato Nunez (Oakland) was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Jose Martinez (Oakland) was 3-for-5 with a run.  Renee Cortez (Seattle) pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits.

Lara:  Paulo Orlando (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third), driving in three.  Maikol Gonzalez (Angels) was 1-for-4 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Tim Gustafson (Colorado) struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

The game:  It was 4-2 Lara after five.  Hector Gimenez (Milwaukee) had a two-run single in a three-run sixth that put Aragua up 5-4.  Lara came right back with two in the bottom of the sixth on Gonzalez' two-run double.  Aragua had two on with none out in the eighth and had the bases loaded with one out in the ninth but could not tie the score.

ANZOATEGUI 5, MAGALLANES 2 IN MAGALLANES

Anzoategui:  Orlando Arcia (Milwaukee) was 2-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Cory Aldridge (Toronto) was 2-for-3 with a home run (his second) and a walk.  Austin Fleet (San Francisco) pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Lew Ford (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Chris Dominguez (San Francisco) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Gabriel Garcia (Houston) struck out two in a perfect inning.

The game:  Arcia had a two-run double in a three-run fifth that put Anzoategui up 4-0.  Magallanes cut the lead to 4-2 after seven, but Arcia doubled in another run in the ninth.
