Puerto Rican Perambulation: Games of November 5

Kennys Vargas leads Mayaguez to victory.  Walks help Santurce to a win.

MAYAGUEZ 9, SAN JUAN 0 IN MAYAGUEZ

Twins:  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with a home run and a walk, scoring twice and driving in three.

San Juan:  Brahiam Maldonado was 1-for-1 with two walks.  Jonathan Mota (Cubs) was 2-for-3.  Fabian Roman (Cincinnati) struck out two in a scoreless innings, allowing one walk.

Mayaguez:  Luis Figueroa was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Bradin Hargens (Arizona) struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing five hits and two walks.

The game:  Vargas hit a two-run homer in a three-run fifth that put Mayaguez up 4-0.  Mayaguez added five in the seventh that put the game out of reach.

SANTURCE 7, CAGUAS 2 IN SANTURCE

Caguas:  Luis Mateo was 3-for-3 with a double.  Javier Machuca pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit with one strikeout.

Santurce:  Delino DeShields (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.  Jorge Martinez pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Leading 3-2 after five, a four-run sixth put the game out of reach for Santurce.  Two of the runs were walked in and the other two scored on a Jonathan Rodriguez single.
