December 6, 2014: Mom

My mom is here for the next five days for my requisite connection to home. Unfortunately, this time of year it's difficult to get time off from work, so we'll see how much I actually get to see her.

  1. Making this today (recipe from one of NBBW's magazines):
Peaches + Chipotle on St. Louis-style pork ribs

In a saucepan, combine 1 peach, chopped (I bought the frozen kind as none avail in stores now), 1/2 c. ketchup (I only had about half of that, so topped off with cocktail sauce), 1/2 c. cider vinegar, 1 chipotle in adobo, chopped (first time using this for me - poured some of the adobo sauce into the pan as well), pinch of black pepper. Boil, then simmer for 10 min.

Using kitchen shears, cut the ribs into riblets (I thot this would give more surface space for the peach/chipotle glaze). Dust with Chipotle pepper (I had Ancho pepper) on both sides. Set into 400 oven after basting the riblets with the peach/chipotle glaze. Bake, then flip and baste again, and cook until done (I would have grilled these, but it is raining here today in H'istan).

Also made some quick cornbread, and Kale/blueberry/toasted almond/raisin/balsalmic vinaigrette/olive oil salad.

Pairing with EvilTwin Brewing's Molotov Cocktail. Not bad.

    1. num num. I like the flexible approach to the recipe.

chipotles in adobo are da Bomb. Great in chili and in certain salsas. A little can go a long ways.

      1. Flexible is why I always struggle to put up recipes. "I put together the stuff I had" never quite sounds right. NBB makes it sound good.

  2. Speaking of beer, bS, it seems the New Glarus raspberry tart is harder to find than I thought. I think they're making too many fruit beers nowadays. Gonna have to try to get to Madison soon, should be able to find it there.

    1. Part of me cried Thursday when I had to pay money for a real tree. I'd prefer there was no Christmas, so my preference is to use the free fake tree I have.

        1. That happens when you light them with those hannukah lamps. They stay lit much longer than you think they would.

  3. The Women's World Cup expanded to 24 countries for the 2015 iteration. Which meant there were a lot of countries in today's group draw that had never won a World Cup match (12 of the 24 to be exact).

Despite that, the US managed to end up in the only group with four countries that have won at least one World Cup match (does that make it the group of death?).
