February 10, 2015: Walking Pneumonia

That's what The Milkmaid's had all this time. Have I mentioned that? Her cough's gone on for about four months, although she's as close to normal as she's been in a long time.

  1. was there this summer. Pretty miserable. I coughed for a good month after the antibiotics took care of the infection.

  2. I've had a slight cough for a full month and a half now. The cold was done as of the end of the first week of January, but the cough lingers. I don't think I've ever had this happen before.

    1. This was me last winter, and it was a horrible cough. Lasted three months+. Good luck to you.

    2. I've had colds hit me that leave me with a rough voice or just extra phlegm in the throat for months while every other effect from the cold leaves after a few days.

    1. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I always figured it might be a fun one-time adventure to live in the Cave, but couldn't imagine ever feeling like watching it.

I'm not sure the show was promoted properly. Apparently they've had people voted out of the Cave by fans for three years now, and as much as they talked about the show, I never even knew there was an elimination component.

  3. I had a ridiculously bad cough in December. Bronchitis. I got the Z-tap or whatever its called. In about 6 days, all gone.

  4. How many teams can claim they traded away their all time top game scorer twice in a season?

Timberwolves Trade Mo Williams, Troy Daniels to Hornets for Gary Neal

    1. Who? Nevermind ... apparently I don't need to know.
      From Rotoworld:

The Minnesota Timberwolves are exploring buyout and trade options with newly-acquired Gary Neal. The Wolves can either cut or trade Neal before the trade deadline and will now look to part ways with their new addition.

          1. Please tell me that Adreian Payne is a budding Taj Gibson. Or even Robert Horry, as comp'd by NBADraft.net.

      1. Who?

Gary Neal was in the A10 back in the day, so I saw him play in college. He did have to transfer out of the conference before graduating going pro, though, because of some alleged really bad conduct.

  5. Okay, not Movie Day, but "Better Call Saul" just aired and I saw it last night.

  6. I know we enjoy complaining about the Wolves "leadership" around here, but let me just share a comment or two about the Kings.

    What. The. Eff?

So, new GM Pete D'Allesandro apparently decided during the off-season that he'd probably fire head coach Michael Malone this year (which would have been his second with the club), causing him to hunt for a lead assistant with head coaching experience who would be willing to step in as interim. Firing happened, and ever since the Bee has been rife with story after story campaigning for George Karl to get the permanent job. Whatever. I like Karl fine; he did good work in Milwaukee and in Denver, but apparently is difficult to deal with. Much of the current front office around D'Allesandro was imported from Denver and knows Karl, so the hire seems obvious anyway.

But nothing is easy. Now there are multiple stories out that Boogie Cousins and his agents don't want Karl, in large part because of his past clashes with ball-hogging stars (*cough* Carmelo *cough*). And NOW comes a sequence of front-page sports section stories stating that (1) Tyrone Corbin would continue to be the coach to the A-S break (after previously being assured he had the job for the rest of the season) but (2) Karl would be brought on board to start coaching after the break.

What a royal cluster-eff of a public relations mess. I guess it's a good thing they already squeezed the political lemon for construction of a new arena.

I so, so, so very much wish they would have moved the franchise so that I could get Warriors games on my cable system, rather than having them blacked out Because Kings Territory.

      1. guy in Timberwolves hat...at a Timberwolves game...in Minnesota.

On the other hand, it's a Timberwolves/Kings game. How hard should it be to pick out a guy in the third row amongst all the empty seats?

      1. The Wolves could have drafted Boogie Cousins. He was on the board when they selected Wes Johnson, IIRC.

I seem compelled to point that out. It's like a tic.

        1. the next six picks, in order, were Cousins, Epke Udoh, Greg Monroe, Al-Farouq Aminu, Gordon Hayward, and Paul George.

The three guys picked before Goodnightwesleyi'llmostlikelykillyouinthemorning were John Wall, Evan Turner, and Derrick Favors.

Consensus assessment on Cousins was that he was an extremely talented headcase. If he figured it out, he'd be a star. But he was a major bust risk. Nbadraft.net's scoring system put him a couple points behind Greg Monroe, but they nonetheless ranked Cousins as the best center in the draft, with Monroe second.

          1. It's amazing how many times in the old NBA crapshoot that the Timberwolves rolled snake eyes. How unlucky.

            1. Yea, just taking the Poor, Sweet Wesley example, 4 of the next 6 guys have turned out to be All Stars or near-All Stars or at least very good starters.

In 2009, the next four guys taken after Jonny Flynn were, in order, Steph Curry, Jordan Hill, DeMarr DeRozan, and Brandon Jennings. Oops.

2011 is less instructive. After Derrick Williams, the next picks were, in order, Enis Kanter, Tristan Thompson, Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesley, Bismarck Biyombo, Brandon Knight, Kemba Walker, and Jimmer Fredette. While Kanter, Thompson, Valanciunas, and Knight all are arguably better NBA players than Williams, the differences are relatively small until you get to Kemba Walker. And the real stars of that draft, Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard, went 11th and 15th respectively (with Jimmy Butler at 30).

        2. I imagine you could create a very formidable team from just the draft picks Kahn blew/wasted.

Cousins, Curry, Mirotic, Parsons, Lawson, etc... That would be a real "fun" exercise.

  7. Anyone who knows him via the games at my site has probably seen this at the Casa, but CdL semi-regular Tom Morgan is being buried under a pile of medical bills after dealing with a heartbreaking divorce and custody battle. Help him here if you're so inclined. He's halfway to his $5000 goal.

    1. The inactivity of this offseason has taken a lot out of me, even in comparison to other offseasons. Watching four out of five teams in a division attempting to improve is great, but having the fifth be one's own is a tad disheartening.

  8. So Jon Stewart is leaving The Daily Show. Its been quite the ride in the late nite world the last 6 or so months.

I was a religious watcher of TDS for many years. But the last few years, I have been watching it less and there would be weeks where I didnt wach it and felt like I didnt miss anything.

So, I'll say the same thing here as when Craig Ferguson said goodbye, it was a nice run.
