Minor Details: Games of April 23

Not much offense for the Lookouts.  Chih-Wei Hu pitched really well for the Miracle.  Stephen Gonsalves pitched even better for the Kernels.

ROCHESTER AT SYRACUSE

Postponed:  Inclement weather.

MISSISSIPPI 5, CHATTANOOGA 2 IN MISSISSIPPI

Batting stars:  Mike Gonzales was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Greg Peavey pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and four walks with four strikeouts.  Dallas Gallant retired all four men he faced.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Castro was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Kevin Ahrens was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Greg Ross pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Corban Joseph delivered a two-out two-run single in the fourth to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.  Hicks singled in a run in the sixth and Gonzales homered in the seventh to tie it at two, but in the bottom of the seventh Castro singled in a run, one scored on a sacrifice fly, and David Rohm drove in a run with a single to give the Braves a 5-2 advantage.  The Lookouts did not get a hit after the Gonzales homer in the seventh.

Of note:  Levi Michael was 1-for-4 with a run.  Jorge Polanco was 0-for-4.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4.

FORT MYERS 4, ST. LUCIE 2 IN ST. LUCIE

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Logan Wade was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

Pitching stars:  Chih-Wei Hu pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Todd Van Steensel retired all six men he faced, striking out four of them.

Opposition stars:  Champ Stuart was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Matt Oberste was 2-for-4 with a double.  Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  The Mets got on the board first, as Stuart homered leading off the bottom of the first.  Alex Swim singled in a run in the fourth to tie it.  In the fifth, Mejia and Mitch Garver each delivered RBI singles to give the Miracle a 3-1 lead.  The Mets did not get a hit from the fifth through the eighth.  In the bottom of the ninth, with the Miracle up 4-1, two singles and a double made it 4-2 and put the tying run in scoring position.  Madison Boer got Amed Rosario to ground out to end the game.

Of note:  Niko Goodrum was 1-for-5.  Garver was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Marcus Knecht was 0-for-4.  Swim was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, WISCONSIN 0 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Jonatan Hinojosa was 2-for-3 with a run.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out eleven in seven shutout innings, giving up one hit (an infield single) and one walk.  Trevor Hildenberger struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Luis Ortega struck out five in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks.

The game:  It was scoreless through five.  The Kernels opened the sixth with two singles and a walk to load the bases.  A sacrifice fly brought home the first run.  The next batter struck out, but the ball was not held and a run scored on the throw to first base.  The Kernels added a run in the eighth.  The lone Timber Rattlers hit was a bunt single in the fourth.

Of note:  Zack Larson was 0-for-2 with two walks.  Max Murphy was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Trey Vavra was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

  1. I'll be gone tomorrow, so there will be no more Minor Details until at least Sunday. Sunday being my one day to work, it may be Monday.
