Minor Details: Games of May 8

Tommy Milone silences the Bats.  Jose Berrios and Stuart Turner carry the Lookouts.  Another good day for Zach Granite in Fort Myers.

ROCHESTER 3, LOUISVILLE 0 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting stars:  Danny Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his fourth.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.  James Beresford was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Tommy Milone struck out eight in 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up five hits and two walks.  Mark Hamburger pitched 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.  A. J. Achter pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Hernan Iribarren was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Donovan Hand pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.

The game:  Ortiz hit a three-run homer with two out in the first inning and that was all the scoring in the game.  The Bats had two on with one out in the seventh and eighth but did not advance a man past second in the game.

Of note:  Aaron Hicks was 1-for-4 with a double.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.

CHATTANOOGA 4, JACKSON 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Stuart Turner was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and two runs.  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Mike Gonzales was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Jose Berrios struck out eight in eight innings, giving up two runs on three hits and three walks.  Zack Jones pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Moises Hernandez pitched three shutout innings, allowing two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Gonzales doubled in a run in the first and Byron Buxton singled one home in the second to give the Lookouts a 2-0 lead.  It held until the sixth, when two walks and a Dario Pizzano triple tied the game 2-2.  After that, neither team had a man on base until the ninth, when Max Kepler's one-out single was followed by Turner's walkoff two-run homer.

Of note:  Buxton was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  Kepler was 1-for-4 with a run.

FORT MYERS 6, JUPITER 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Bryan Haar was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Logan Wade was 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Zach Granite was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Todd Van Steensel pitched 1.2 perfect innings with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Austin Dean was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Rehiner Cordova was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The game:  Dean tripled in a run and later scored in the third to put the Hammerheads up 2-0, but the Miracle came back with three in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.  In the fifth, a double and four singles resulted in only two runs, but gave the Miracle a 5-2 advantage.  The Hammerheads cut the lead to 5-3 and 6-4 but never got closer.  They had the tying run on with one out in the eighth, but a double play ended the inning.

Of note:  Alex Swim was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Mitch Garver was 0-for-2 with a walk.  Ryan Eades pitched 7.1 innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

CEDAR RAPIDS KERNELS

Rained out.  Game will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.
