Minor Details: Games of August 14

Jose Berrios was dominant until all of a sudden he wasn't.  Shannon Wilkerson and Aaron Slegers lead the Lookouts to an easy win.  Engelb Vielma delivers the game-winning single in the eighth for the Miracle.  The Kernels hung in there for a while, but couldn't keep up the scoring.  Daniel Kihle and Onesimo Hernandez lead the E-Twins to an E-asy victory.  Christian Cavaness keeps hitting for the GCL Twins.  Gorge Munoz and Jadison Jimenez lead the DSL Twins to a win.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Doug Bernier was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.

Pitching stars:  Adrian Salcedo struck out three in two perfect innings.  Aaron Thompson pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Aaron Judge was 1-for-4 with a three-run homer, his sixth.  Rob Refsnyder was 1-for-3 with a home run, his ninth.  Brady Lail pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Neither team scored in the first five innings, and there were only two hits in that time, both Red Wings singles.  In the sixth, a walk and two singles produced two runs for a 2-0 Red Wings lead.  It didn't last long, as Jose Berrios, who had allowed only one baserunner (a hit batsman) through six innings, succumbed to the long ball in the seventh.  Refsnyder led off the inning with a home run, Judge hit a three-run homer, and an error and two singles produced another run, putting the RailRiders up 5-2.  The Red Wings scored once in the eighth and put the tying run on base with one out, but their last five batters were retired.

Of note:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-5 with a run.  James Beresford was 0-for-3.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 0-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Xavier Avery was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Jose Berrios was dominant for six innings, striking out eight, but his final line reads six innings, five runs (four earned), six hits, and no walks.

CHATTANOOGA 14, TENNESSEE 2 IN CHATTANOOGA

Batting stars:  Shannon Wilkerson was 3-for-5 with two triples, scoring once and driving in six.  Levi Michael was 3-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Travis Harrison was 3-for-5 with a triple, scoring three times and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Slegers pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  Nick Burdi struck out five in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Alex Wimmers pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jacob Hannemann was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk, driving in one.  Bijan Rademacher was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Tyler Pearson was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game:  D. J. Hicks hit a three-run homer in a five-run first that put the Lookouts in control early.  They added one in the second, three in the third, and one in the fourth to go ahead 10-0 before the Smokies finally scored.

Of note:  Stephen Wickens was 3-for-5 with a double and a walk, scoring once.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Hicks was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, his fourth.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-4 with a home run (his twenty-seventh) and a walk, scoring twice.

FORT MYERS 3, PALM BEACH 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Zach Granite was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs.  Ryan Walker was 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Omar Bencomo pitched six innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.  Jake Reed struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Zach Jones pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Casey Turgeon was 0-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Breyvic Valera was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jhonny Polanco struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.

The game:  The Cardinals scored one in the first.  It stayed 1-0 until the fourth, when the Miracle scored twice with only one hit to take a 2-1 lead.  Luke Voit singled in the tying run in the sixth.  In the eighth, Vielma delivered an RBI single to put the Miracle in front 3-2.  The Cardinals went down in order in the ninth.

Of note:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-5.  Mitch Garver was 1-for-4 with a walk.

FORT WAYNE 10, CEDAR RAPIDS 4 IN FORT WAYNE

Batting stars:  Brian Navaretto was 1-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

Pitching star:  No one hit the ball in two innings against Michael Theofanopoulos.  He pitched two innings and faced seven batters, striking out six and walking one.

Opposition stars:  Michael Gettys was 3-for-5 with a triple and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Ruddy Giron was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  Edwin Moreno was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs.

The game:  Each team scored once in the first and three times in the second, so it was 4-4 after two.  From there, it was all TinCaps.  They scored two in the fourth to take the lead and four in the sixth to put the game out of reach.  Luis Tejada had a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Of note:  Tanner English injured his arm chasing a fly ball in the first inning and was removed from the game.  That's all I know about it.  T. J. White was 0-for-3.  Randy Rosario struck out four in four innings but gave up six runs on seven hits and four walks.

ELIZABETHTON 7, BRISTOL 0 IN BRISTOL

Batting stars:  Daniel Kihle was 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once.  Alex Perez was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.

Pitching stars:  Onesimo Hernandez struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.  Tyler Stirewalt struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Nick Buckner was 2-for-4 with a double.

The game:  The Twins packed all their scoring into two innings, scoring four in the third and three in the seventh.  Kihle had a two-run single in the third and a three-run homer in the seventh.  The Pirates biggest threat came in the seventh, when they loaded the bases with two out, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Of note:  Jermaine Palacios was 0-for-5.  A. J. Murray was 0-for-5 with a run.

GCL TWINS 7, GCL RED SOX 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Christian Cavaness was 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Ruar Verkerk was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Bryant Hayman was 1-for-2 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Lachlan Wells struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up four hits.

Opposition stars:  Roldani Baldwin was 2-for-3.  Pat Goetze pitched 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with one strikeout.  Carlos Garcia pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.

The game:  Cavaness put the Twins on the board in the first when he tripled and scored on a wild pitch.  The Twins added two in the second and put the game out of reach with a four-run third.  The Red Sox' biggest threat came in the ninth, when they loaded the bases with one out.  A double play ended the game.

Of note:  Luis Arraez was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4.

DSL TWINS 5, DSL RED SOX1 0 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Gorge Munoz was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk, scoring twice.  Jhonathan Alvarez was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Jadison Jimenez struck out eight in five shutout innings, giving up eight hits and one walk.  Randolph Perez struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Jose Ramirez pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Willis Figueroa was 2-for-4.  Luis Yovera was 2-for-4.  Alejandro Rodriguez pitched four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The game:  The Twins scored single runs in the first, third, sixth, seventh, and eighth.  The RedSox1 stranded nine men in the first four innings and eleven for the game, going 2-for-14 with men in scoring position.

Of note:  Antonio Tovar was 1-for-4.  Junior Amarante was 1-for-4.
