  3. Two thoughts before I start my randoms:
    a. If you have a foreign-language album you like, but your spouse knows the language much better than you do, learn what a song means before you get your little ones hooked on it. I had Einsürzende Neubauten's Tabula Rasa in the minivan last weekend, and wanted to know what AJR (5) and LBR (3) thought of it. They really liked "Zebulon". It wasn't until I played it for EAR that I suspected the lyrics may be... suggestive.

Suggestive in a particularly Blixa Bargeld way SelectShow

I guess that now, if I ever watch a German-language movie, I'll know what "Ich komme" means.

    B. I've only read about half, but this interview of Taylor Swift by the famous SBGvillian interests me.

    1. I know that some of Sigur Rós's Icelandic lyrics are not particularly kid friendly (Ný Batterí springs to mind), but the risk of the kids learning Icelandic before those lyrics would be concerning seems....low.

      1. I assumed a lot were in Hopelandic. Many are also indecipherable due to Jónsi's vocal style.
I don't believe they were translated in the liner notes (unlike Tabula Rasa).

        1. They are not translated anywhere but the internet.

( ) was entirely in Hopelandic, and I think subsequent albums have been a mixture of Hopelandic and Icelandic (and English, on Jónsi's solo album, which is excellent).

  4. Dear everyone, please listen to Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats' song S.O.B.. (As the title implies, there are some naughty words in the song, so use caution as appropriate.) This song has been absolutely blowing my mind lately.

      1. I've very much enjoyed the other songs I've heard by this band too, though admittedly that's only 2 or 3.

    1. The other day, my brother asked if I had heard this song because it, according to him, gets played on The Current every half hour. It hasnt made its way into my rotation yet.

  5. 1. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy “Whipped” Singer's Grave - A Sea of Tongues
        a. Sandhill Crane (Greater) “Loud Rattle Calls” (Cornell Master Set)

    9. Aphex Twin “To Cure a Weakling Child (Contour Regard)” Come to Daddy
    T. Colleen Green “Things That Are Bad for Me” I Want to Grow Up*

    *Notes:
    3. A "Megamix" of Reich sounds anathema, but it's probably the second-best remix on the album. Blending "Electric Counterpoint", "Proverb", and "It's Gonna Rain (Part II)" works quite well.
(The best remix is Ken Ishii's "Come Out": new and different but really pulling on why the original is good, distilling it to its essence.)
    4. With Angel Olson on background vox and a half-verse of lead.
    7. Available on the internet archive. This is the concert at which I first saw Ha Ha Tonka, who opened (though it looks like that set was not recorded by the bootlegger).

I've put it on the calendar, but I have no idea what things will look like in a few weeks.

  8. Per allmusic, “one of the most resilient and criminally underappreciated bands to rise from the Midwestern underground community. The career of the noisy guitar unit is a textbook study in alt-rock endurance; despite a nightmarish major-label tenure, ill-timed roster changes, and commercial indifference, the group persevered, and emerged as elder statesmen of the Chicago independent scene.”
A favorite from their only major label record Beet.
