  1. Woke up early this morning to do some smoking. I started up a brisket in an actual smoker, and am putting ribs on a Weber with the snake method (big hat tip to whoever it was here that first recommended that...) in an hour or so. Hopeful that it will all turn out well, since I'm pretty sure there's going to be a LOT of it...

  2. Got back from Santa Fe Friday afternoon. My FiL got to say his goodbyes.

He said his final goodbye early this morning, passing in his sleep. I'll have more to say in eulogy when I figure out what to say. But he was a Mensch.

    1. Sorry to hear.

It's always nice when a guy is able to say he really gets along with the FiL, though. We've gotten there, but it took years.

All our best to your wife and the kids. Hang in there.

    2. I'm with these guys - glad to hear he got to say goodbye, and you all to him, and that his passing was peaceful. My maternal grandfather was able to hold on long enough to greet everyone who came to see him; his mental faculties fully intact. It was a blessing.

  3. Made salmon on the grill last nite using a cedar plank (bought at WF) soaked for a couple hours. Lite marinade of soy sauce/oyster sauce/garlic.

Left the tiniest of vents open on the grill and shut the lid. Results were the silkiest/best grilled/smoked salmon evah.

      1. The logical conclusion to that play being the coach getting to beat the crap out of him for it.
