Minor Details: Games of May 9

Max Kepler and Byron Buxton lead the Red Wings.  Mitch Garver and D. J. Baxendale lead the Lookouts.  Stephen Gonsalves and Trey Vavra lead the Miracle.  We say a fond farewell to Alex Swim.

ROCHESTER 6, GWINNETT 3 IN ROCHESTER

The Red Wings lost leads of 2-0 and 3-2, but Max Kepler hit a two-run single in a three-run seventh that carried them to victory.  Taylor Rogers, who had been moved to the bullpen this season but made an emergency start last night, pitched five innings, giving up three runs on five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Buck Britton was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 12, PENSACOLA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

Mitch Garver's two-run double capped a five-run third that put the Lookouts up 5-1 and they were not threatened after that.  Garver also hit a two-run homer (his second) and went 3-for-5 on the day.  Shannon Wilkerson was also 3-for-5.  Leonardo Reginatto went 2-for-5 with a double and raised his average to .306.  D. J. Baxendale pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

FORT MYERS 10, BRADENTON 6 IN BRADENTON

The Miracle led 10-0 after seven and then hung on for the win.  They scored two in the first and two in the fourth, then had a five-run fifth to build a commanding lead.  Stephen Gonsalves struck out eight in 6.1 scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and four walks.  He now has an ERA of 1.21 and a WHIP of 0.83 with 35 strikeouts and 13 walks in 37.1 innings (6 starts).  Trey Vavra was 3-for-5 with a home run.  Logan Wade was 3-for-5 with a double.  Nick Gordon again did not play and has been placed on the disabled list with a concussion.  While checking that out, we noticed that catcher Alex Swim retired.  He had hit .311 in Cedar Rapids in 2014 and hit .311 again in Fort Myers in 2015.  He did so with few walks and little power, but .311 is .311.  He's been batting poorly this season.  We wish him well with whatever the next chapter of his life might be.
