You're the one
You're all I ever wanted
I think I'll regret this
I'm not a huge Mitski fan, but I've really been digging this song.
Listening to this, I think I would want the guitar squall to be even more pronounced during the hook (I would actually like it to the point of nearly drowning out the vocals, I think), so this feels a little...flat, weirdly?
Also, it feels really short, though it's only about a half minute shorter than the studio version.
Oh sure, just make me listen to it again. 😉
I think I agree--while I'm a big fan, her songs can sometimes feel overly constrained . . . almost boxed in, whereas sometimes it would be nice to have something a little looser and more sprawling. I've not picked up the new album yet (planning to this weekend), but everything on Bury Me at Makeout Creek is short.
When I saw this video, I sort of imagined a really restrained, lilting lead verse, followed by a heavy squall on the first hook, then an all out cacophony after the awesome verse you quoted...
It's probably not fair to project my arrangement expectations on the artist, but I think it would've been cooler that way.
Average song length: LUSH: 2:41.55 Retired From Sad, New Career In Business: 2:52.88 Bury Me At Makeout Creek: 3:01.5
I predict the average song length on Puberty 2 to be between 3:11.47 and 3:12.39
According to a screenshot on Zack's FB feed, the first 8 songs average out to 2:57.25. I don't have information on the last 3 songs.
