CEDAR RAPIDS 7, LAKE COUNTY 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

The Captains scored three in the fifth, aided by an error and a passed ball, to take a 3-2 lead.  Aaron Whitefield homered (his fifth) in the bottom of the fifth to tie it 3-3.  In the seventh, Lewin Diaz hit a two-out three-run double to put the Kernels up 6-3.  Lake County brought the tying run up to bat with one out in the eighth, but a ground out and a strikeout ended the inning.  Cedar Rapids added an insurance run in the ninth.

Eduardo Del Rosario had pitched four shutout innings before weakening in the fifth, but his line is four innings, three runs (two earned), five hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.  Hector Lujan picked him up, throwing three shutout innings and giving up only a walk.  His ERA is now 2.79 in 9.2 innings.  Colton Davis and Tom Hackimer each pitched a scoreless inning.  Whitefield was 3-for-4 with a double in addition to his home run and is batting .313 with an OPS of .950.  He usually bats ninth.  Diaz was 3-for-4 with two home runs (his second and third) along with a double and had five RBIs.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-4 with a double and is batting .398.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-4.  Mitchell Kranson was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .320.  Ariel Montesino was 0-for-4 and dropped his average back to double digits at .098.
