Minor Details: Games of May 12

Zack Granite keys a Red Wings win.  A three-run, no-hit rally leads the Lookouts, as Ryan Eades saves the bullpen.  The Miracle gets blown out.  A big day for Mitchell Kranson leads the Kernels.

ROCHESTER 3, PAWTUCKET 2 IN PAWTUCKET

It was tied 1-1 after seven.  Zack Granite hit a one-out double in the eighth and scored on a triple by Niko Goodrum, who scored on Matt Hague's sacrifice fly to give the Red Wings a 3-1 lead.  The Red Sox got a run in the ninth but did not put the tying run on base.  Ex-Twin Heiker Meneses was 0-for-1 and is batting .222.  Ex-Twin Blaine Boyer pitched two innings and surrendered the two eighth-inning runs.

Jason Wheeler had his second good start of the year, going six innings and giving up one run on five hits and no walks with no strikeouts.  Trevor Hildenberger pitched two shutout innings to lower his ERA to 2.13.  Granite was 3-for-4 with two doubles, getting three of the five Rochester hits.  He is batting .320.  Byungho Park was 0-for-4 and is 0-for-13 since coming back from the disabled list.

CHATTANOOGA 9, MONTGOMERY 2 IN MONTGOMERY

The Biscuits led 2-0 after three, but it was all Lookouts after that.  It was tied 2-2 after five and Chattanooga scored three in the sixth to go into the lead to stay.  It was quite a rally--with one out, a hit batsman and four consecutive walks plated two and a sacrifice fly scored a third.  Three runs on no hits, but they all count.  The Lookouts added two in the seventh and two in the ninth.  Montgomery out-hit Chattanooga 11-8, but the Lookouts drew eleven walks and had two hit batsmen.  Chattanooga really should have scored more--they were 2-for-14 with men in scoring position and stranded ten.

Felix Jorge pitched 4.2 innings, giving up just two runs (one earned) on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Ryan Eades struck out six in 4.1 innings of relief.  LaMonte Wade was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer (his fourth) and a walk, driving in three.  He is batting .327.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and scored three times.  Nick Gordon was 1-for-5 with a walk and is batting .315.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-2 with two walks and is batting .301.

CHARLOTTE 11, FORT MYERS 2 IN CHARLOTTE

The Stone Crabs scored four in the first and three in the third and cruised to a win.  The Miracle scored single runs in the fourth and the seventh but never threatened to get back into the game.

Chris Anderson had his third consecutive poor start, going three innings and surrendering eleven runs (ten earned) on eleven hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is now 18.90.  The bullpen did well, although it can be easier to pitch when the game is gone.  Michael Theofanopoulos pitched two shutout innings, Anthony McIver pitched 1.2 scoreless, and Alex Muren pitched 1.1 scoreless innings.  Fort Myers had only three hits.  Chris Paul was 1-for-3 with a double and is batting .307.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BOWLING GREEN 3 IN BOWLING GREEN

Jaylin Davis had a two-run double in the first.  The Kernels added two in the third and the lead was never less than three after that.

Domenick Carlini struck out five in five innings but gave up three runs on four hits and two walks.  Alex Robinson and Tom Hackimer each pitched two shutout innings, with Hackimer lowering his ERA to 2.12.  Mitchell Kranson was 4-for-5 with two doubles.  DavisLewin Diaz, and Travis Blankenhorn were each 2-for-5.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-5 and is now batting .333.
