Minor Details: Games of June 14

The Red Wings lose a see-saw game as Zack Granite stays hot.  Fernando Romero and Nick Gordon lead the Lookouts to a win.  Fort Myers scores nine runs twice in a doubleheader sweep.  No clutch hitting for the Kernels.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 6, ROCHESTER 5 IN SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE

With the Red Wings leading 3-1 in the fourth, Gleyber Torres hit a two-run triple and later scored to put the RailRiders ahead 4-3.  Rochester took the lead back in the seventh on Matt Hague's two-run single.  In the eighth, however, Mason Williams delivered a two-out two-run double to put Scranton Wilkes-Barre in the lead to stay.  The Red Wings went down in order in the ninth, with ex-Twin J. R. Graham coming in to strike out Hague for the last out.  Greg Bird, on a rehab assignment, was 0-for-3 with a walk.

David Hurlbut pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Drew Rucinski pitched two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.13.  Zack Granite was 3-for-5 with two doubles and is batting .331.  John Ryan MurphyBengie Gonzalez, and Engelb Vielma were each 2-for-4.

CHATTANOOGA 8, TENNESSEE 1 IN TENNESSEE

In the second inning, T. J. White hit a solo homer and Nick Gordon delivered a three-run shot later in the inning to put the Lookouts ahead 4-0.  The Smokies scored once in the sixth, but Chattanooga got two in the seventh and two in the ninth, the latter on a Jonathan Rodriguez two-run homer, to win easily.

Fernando Romero struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on seven hits and no walks.  He has made five consecutive good starts, in which time he has lowered his ERA from 4.73 to 3.27.  He has 70 strikeouts in 71.2 innings.  Todd Van Steensel pitched two shutout innings to drop his ERA to 2.08.  Edgar Corcino was 3-for-5 and is batting .305.  LaMonte Wade was also 3-for-5.  Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and the home run was his sixth.  Gordon was 2-for-5 with three RBIs on his sixth home run and is batting .318.  White was 2-for-5 with his second homer and is batting .320.

FORT MYERS 9, CHARLOTTE 3 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

The Stone Crabs scored two runs in the second to take a 2-0 lead, but the Miracle blew them away with five in the bottom of the second and four more in the third.  Trey Vavra had a two-run single and Daniel Kihle a two-run double in the second inning.  Alex Perez had a two-run single in the third, which also featured three walks and a wild pitch.

Lewis Thorpe struck out eight in four innings, giving up two runs on four hits and one walk.  He threw 68 pitches, so one assumes he remains on a pitch count.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning, keeping his ERA at zero in five innings of high-A.  Sean Miller was 3-for-4.  Perez was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Brian Navaretto was 2-for-4.

FORT MYERS 9, CHARLOTTE 4 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Stone Crabs scored three in the second to take a 3-1 lead, but the Miracle came back with four in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good.  Max Murphy had a two-run double in the inning.  It was 5-4 going to the bottom of the fifth, but Fort Myers had another four-run inning to put the game out of reach.  Murphy again had the key hit, this time delivering a three-run double.

Brady Anderson pitched five innings, giving up four runs (one earned) on eight hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Sam Clay struck out two in two shutout innings to make his ERA 2.18.  He has 36 strikeouts in 33 innings.  Kevin Garcia was 2-for-2 with a walk and is batting .300.  Murphy was 2-for-3 with two doubles and five RBIs.  Trey Vavra was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

QUAD CITIES 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN QUAD CITIES

The River Bandits scored in five of the first six innings to build a 7-0 lead.  The lone Kernel run came in the seventh on Travis Blankenhorn's RBI triple.  Cedar Rapids had eleven hits, but stranded ten runners.  Ten of the eleven hits were singles.

Domenick Carlini pitched five innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Evan Sanders pitched a perfect inning.  Lewin DiazMitchell Kranson, and Brandon Lopez were each 2-for-4.  Blankenhorn was 2-for-5 with a triple.  Jermaine Palacios was 2-for-5 and is batting .321.

DSL TWINS 6, DSL ROCKIES 3 AT ROCKIES

Yeltsin Encarnacion had a two-run triple to tie it in the sixth and scored later in the inning to put the Twins ahead 3-2.  The Rockies tied it in the bottom of the sixth, but Encarnacion scored in the eighth on a Juan Martinez single to give the Twins a 4-3 lead.  They added two in the ninth when Agustin Marte hit an RBI triple and scored on Estamy Urena's single.

Andriu Marin pitched three innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Frandy Torres pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and has an ERA of zero in 4.1 innings.  Encarnacion was 3-for-4 with a triple and double and is batting .471.  Samuel Vasquez was 2-for-3 with two walks and is batting .407.  Urena was 2-for-4 with a walk and is batting .533.
