Minor Details: Games of July 2

Zack Granite keeps hitting.  Levi Michael leads the Lookouts to a sweep.  Big innings lead to a doubleheader split for Fort Myers.  Griffin Jax makes a very successful first start for Cedar Rapids.  Not much offense for the E-Twins.

LEHIGH VALLEY 3, ROCHESTER 0 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Scott Kingery hit a two-run homer in the fifth and J. P. Crawford homered in the eighth.  The Red Wings had just five hits, all singles.

David Hurlbut struck out nine in 7.2 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits and no walks.  Zack Granite was 2-for-4 and is batting .367.

CHATTANOOGA 5, MISSISSIPPI 4 IN MISSISSIPPI (GAME 1--COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

There was no score until the seventh, when Levi Michael hit a two-run homer.  The Lookouts got two more in the eighth to go up 4-0, but the Braves came back with four in the bottom of the eighth to tie the score.  Jonathan Morales had a two-run single to tie it up.  In the ninth a walk, a bunt, and an error put men on first and third with one out and a sacrifice fly put Chattanooga ahead 5-4.  Mississippi had the tying run on second with two out, but a strikeout ended the game.

Fernando Romero had struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks, when the game was suspended.  His ERA is 2.90 and he has 79 strikeouts in 80.2 innings.  Randy LeBlanc had pitched five shutout innings before allowing four runs in the eighth.  Luke Bard struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, making his ERA 2.50 with 59 strikeouts in 36 innings.  Nick Gordon was 2-for-4 to make his average .311.  Edgar Corcino was 1-for-5 to make his average .300.

CHATTANOOGA 4, MISSISSIPPI 0 IN MISSISSIPPI (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

The Lookouts got a run in the first on a passed ball.  It stayed 1-0 until the sixth, when T. J. White hit a two-run double and scored on Levi Michael's RBI double to make it 4-0.  The Braves did not get a hit until the fourth and had only four hits in the game, all singles.

It was a bullpen game for Chattanooga.  Ryan Eades struck out five in three perfect innings.  Alex Muren pitched three shutout innings to make his ERA 2.00 with a WHIP of 1.00 in 9 innings.  Randy Rosario pitched a perfect inning to make his ERA 2.17 with a WHIP of 0.93.  Edgar Corcino was 2-for-3 and is batting .304.  Nick Gordon was 0-for-3 with a walk and is batting .308.

ST. LUCIE 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

It was tied at one after four.  The Mets opened the fifth with three singles and Peter Alonso followed with a grand slam to make it 5-1 St. Lucie.  The Miracle came back, scoring one in the fifth and then opening the seventh with four singles to make it 5-4.  Men were on first and second with none out, but a fly out and a double play ended the game.

Brady Anderson pitched well for four innings, but his line reads four innings, five runs, eight hits, four walks, and one strikeout.  Jonny Drozd pitched two shutout innings to make his ERA 2.83.  David Fischer pitched a perfect inning.  Jermaine Palacios was 3-for-4 with a double and is batting .407.  Brandon Lopez was 2-for-3 with a walk and is batting .438.  Max Murphy was 2-for-4 and is batting .312.  The top three men in the Fort Myers order were 7-for-11 and had all but two of the team's nine hits.

FORT MYERS 12, ST. LUCIE 1 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

It was tied at one after three.  Zander Weil opened the fourth with a home run, igniting an eight-run rally that put the game out of reach.  Jermaine Palacios had a two-run double in the inning.  The Miracle added two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Anthony McIver, making just his third start, pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 2.56.  Keaton Steele pitched two shutout innings.  Shane Kennedy was 3-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Brandon Lopez was 3-for-5 with a double and is batting .476.  Nelson Molina was 2-for-4.  Max Murphy was 2-for-5 with a double and is batting .313.  Palacios was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and is batting .387.  Weil's home run was his seventh.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, CLINTON 0 IN CLINTON

The Kernels scored in each of the first three innings.  Lewin Diaz singled home a run in the first, Lean Marrero had an RBI double in the second, and Aaron Whitefield homered leading off the third.  The LumberKings had just three hits and their last fourteen men were retired.

Griffin Jax, in his first Class A start, pitched seven shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Logan Lombana and Hector Lujan each pitched a perfect inning, with Lujan lowering his ERA to 1.74.  Whitefield's home run was his ninth.

DANVILLE 7, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN DANVILLE

Robert Molina's RBI single in the fifth tied it 1-1, but it was all Braves after that.  Derian Cruz homered in the bottom of the fifth to make it 2-1 and Danville got five in the eighth to put the game out of reach.  Justin Smith had a two-run double and William Contreras a two-run single in the inning.

Charlie Barnes struck out five in 3.1 innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  Wander Javier was 2-for-3 with a double.  Matt Albanese was 0-for-3 and is batting .382.  Jose Miranda was 0-for-4 and is batting .308.  Ariel Montesino appeared in his first game of the season for Elizabethton and was 0-for-4.
