Game 104 — Twins at Padres (not Jeff A)

Yikes, what a difference a week makes. Last week we were basking in the glow of the Jaime Garcia trade, wondering who were we're going to give up to get Sonny Gray or Yu Darvish and putting money under the mattress for playoff tix. Today we sardonically smile at Garcia's Mooch-like tenure with the Twins and welcome the Dillon Gee era of Twins baseball.

But not all is lost. The Twins are playing in a beautiful city and a beautiful ballpark and Jose Berrios on the moun and Byron Buxton roaming centerfield. Let's go show those Padres that (Hamms) bears really are cool.

  1. I mentioned to my students this afternoon that I'd like to go back to San Diego for a Padres game. None of those high rises existed when I was going to games out there.

In twenty years, I think both the Friars' ballpark and the LOL will be regarded as the best of the modern ballparks.

      Agreed, and in that order.

    2. I've spent the last 14 hours trying to figure which ballpark could conceivably be referred to as LOL. Still haven't figured it out.

        1. Yep. The Twins had registered domains for LandOLakesPark.com and LandOLakesField.com. They didn't even hide the ownership under a holding company – the addresses were for the front office on Kirby Puckett Place and everything.

  2. I am apparently getting Vikings cheerleader tryouts or somesuch instead of the game. Not happy.

  3. Game is on FS1
And Eric Karros is doing color. I'd rather have Bert in the booth.

  4. Better throw by Buxton probably has him, but nice play by Berrios to get the out at third.

    1. You can't have your pitcher lead off the eighth inning when trailing by a run. There's nothing ridiculous about that. That was a given. Blame the NL rules.

      1. The Twins have been starving for good pitching performances and the bullpen has been a disaster this trip and with the Kintzler trade the one steady arm is gone. Berrios was locked in, only at 75 pitches and only down a run. NL rules be damned and let the guy pitch.

  5. This bullpen sure knows how to get me to go to bed on time during these West Coast road. trips.
