Minor Details: Games of August 7

Tim Melville is quietly pitching very well for Rochester.  Levi Michael stays hot for Chattanooga as Fernando Romero has a rare bad game.  Brent Rooker hit his second home run in three games, but it wasn't enough.  Ben Rortvedt has a good day. The GCL Twins get only one hit.  Errors prevail in the DSL.

COLUMBUS 4, ROCHESTER 1 IN ROCHESTER

It was 1-1 through seven, but in the eighth three consecutive singles, an error, and another single produced three Clippers runs.  The Red Wings loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth but did not get a hit after that.

Tim Melville continues to pitch well, striking out nine in seven innings and giving up one run on one hit and three walks.  His ERA is 2.55.  Michael Tonkin struck out the side in a perfect inning to drop his ERA to 1.91 with 48 strikeouts in 33 innings.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-4.  Zack Granite was 0-for-4 and is batting .347.

JACKSON 9, CHATTANOOGA 3 IN CHATTANOOGA

The Generals scored once in each of the first two innings, then scored four in the third to take control of the game.  Max Murphy hit a two-run triple in a three-run fourth that cut the lead to 6-3, but that was as good as it got for the Lookouts.  Jackson added three in the seventh, two coming on a home run by Kevin Cron.

Fernando Romero pitched five innings but allowed six runs on nine hits and no walks with no strikeouts.  His ERA is now 2.96.  Todd Van Steensel pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.45 with 53 strikeouts in 49.2 innings.  Levi Michael was 2-for-4 and is batting .400 (18-for-45) in his last ten games.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 0-for-4 and is batting .310.

PALM BEACH 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN PALM BEACH

The Mets got all of their runs in the third inning, but it was enough.  Casey Turgeon had a two-run double in the inning.  The Miracle scored three in the sixth on a Brent Rooker three-run homer to cut the lead to 5-4.  Fort Myers had men on first and second with two out in the eighth, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Eduardo Del Rosario had a rough game, going only four innings and allowing five runs on six hits and four walks with no strikeouts.  Williams Ramirez struck out two in two shutout innings.  Michael Theofanopoulos also pitched two shutout innings.  Rooker was 2-for-4 and the home run was his fourth.  Mitchell Kranson was 2-for-4.  Jermaine Palacios was 1-for-4 and is batting .301.

WISCONSIN 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN WISCONSIN

Ben Rortvedt doubled and scored in the fourth to tie the score 2-2, but it was all Timber Rattlers after that.  Keston Hiura doubled in a run in the fifth to give Wisconsin a 3-2 lead.  It stayed 3-2 until the eighth, when a four-run inning put the game out of reach.  Ronnie Gideon homered in the inning and Dallas Carroll had a two-run single.

Tyler Beardsley pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Patrick McGuff pitched 2.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 2.43 with 39 strikeouts in 33.1 innings.  Rortvedt was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored both Kernels runs.

ELIZABETHTON AT BLUEFIELD

Rained out.

GCL ORIOLES 6, GCL TWINS 0 AT ORIOLES

Alexis Torres hit a two-run triple in the fourth and later scored to put the Orioles up 4-0.  The Twins had only one hit, an Alex Robles single leading off the fifth.  They also drew one walk.  Their best offensive weapon was the strikeout/wild pitch, by which they twice got a baserunner.  The Twins did not advance a man past first base.

Henry Centeno pitched 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Taylor Clemensia pitched two shutout innings.  Robles was 1-for-3 and is batting .342.  Jean Carlos Arias was 0-for-4 and is batting .316.

DSL YANKEES 10, DSL TWINS 8 AT TWINS

The Twins trailed 3-0 after one, led 4-3 after three, and led 8-4 after five, but the Yankees took a 9-8 lead in the seventh and added an insurance run in the ninth. The go-ahead run scored on an error.  Each team made six errors, leading to a combined seven unearned runs.

Michael Montero struck out four in three innings, but allowed three runs on five hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.86 with a WHIP of 0.91 and 48 strikeouts in 47.1 innings.  Jose Bermudez pitched two shutout innings in his 2017 DSL debut.  Samuel Vasquez was 2-for-3 with a walk and is batting .302.  Agustin Marte was 2-for-4 and is batting .311.  Ruben Santana was 2-for-4 with a triple and is batting .339.  Yeremi De La Cruz hit a home run, his second.  Alberoni Nunez was 0-for-4 and is batting .359.  Yeltsin Encarncion was 1-for-4 and is batting .349.
