Minor Details: Games of August 18

Tommy Field hits a grand slam as Kohl Stewart makes his AAA debut.  A big home run by Jonathan Rodriguez as Gabriel Moya preserves a win.  Brent Rooker keeps hitting as Fort Myers makes a Miracle comeback.  Anthony Marzi again pitches well.  Bailey Ober and Akil Baddoo have outstanding games.  A grand slam for Jared Akins as Cody Stashak does well in a rehab assignment.  Junior Navas remains unscored upon.

ROCHESTER 10, LOUISVILLE 4 IN LOUISVILLE

Darnell Sweeney hit a two-run homer in a four-run second that put the Bats up 4-1.  The Red Wings came right back in the third, as a double and three walks plated one run and Tommy Field hit a grand slam that put Rochester ahead 6-4.  Engelb Vielma tripled and scored in the fourth to make it 7-4.  The Red Wings tacked on one run in the eighth and two in the ninth.

Kohl Stewart made his AAA debut and pitched well other than in the second inning.  He struck out five in five innings but allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk.  John Curtiss pitched 2.2 scoreless innings to drop his ERA to 1.93 with a WHIP of 0.86 and 31 strikeouts in 23.1 innings.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.98 with 54 strikeouts in 36.1 innings.  Vielma was 2-for-5 with a triple and scored three times.  Daniel Palka was 2-for-5 with a double.  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-5.  J. B. Shuck was 2-for-6 with a triple.  Field's home run was his sixth.

CHATTANOOGA 9, TENNESSEE 8 IN CHATTANOOGA

Max Murphy had a two-run single in a four-run first.  The Smokies got one in the bottom of the first and two in the third to cut the lead to 4-3.  In the sixth, Jonathan Rodriguez hit a three-run homer to cap a five-run inning that put the Lookouts ahead 9-3 and left them seemingly in control of the game.  In the ninth, however, Tennessee opened the inning with a double, a walk, two singles, and another double, making the score 9-6 with men on second and third with none out.  A sacrifice fly and a double made it 9-8 with the tying run on second and one out, but a fly out and a strikeout ended the game.

Felix Jorge pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts.  Gabriel Moya cleaned up the mess in the ninth and was credited with a scoreless inning to make his ERA 0.87 with a WHIP of 0.79 and 81 strikeouts in 52 innings.  Ryan Walker was 3-for-4.  Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a home run (his eighteenth) and a walk and is batting .308.  Edgar Corcino was 0-for-3 with two walks and is batting .303.

FORT MYERS 7, TAMPA 6 IN TAMPA

The Yankees scored one in the first, three in the second, and two in the fourth to build a 6-0 lead.  The Miracle got on the board with two in the sixth and then put together a five-run seventh to take the lead.  Jermaine Palacios had a two-run double, Brandon Lopez delivered a run-scoring single, and Brent Rooker brought home the tying and go-ahead runs with a two-run homer.  Tampa loaded the bases with two out in the eighth and had men on first and second with one out in the ninth, but the lead held.

Sean Poppen pitched five innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Alex Robinson struck out two in a perfect inning.  Michael Kohn pitched a scoreless inning to keep his ERA at zero with four strikeouts in two innings.  Andrew Vasquez pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.52 with 44 strikeouts in 29.2 innings.  Tom Hackimer pitched a scoreless inning to lower his ERA to 2.30 with 35 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.  Lopez was 3-for-5 with a double.  Sean Miller and Jaylin Davis were each 2-for-4.  Rooker was 2-for-5 and the home run was his seventh. He is 12-for-33 (.364) with four home runs in his last ten games.  Palacios was 2-for-5 with a double.  Chris Paul was 1-for-5 and is batting .348.

CEDAR RAPIDS 2, BELOIT 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Each team scored once in the third.  It stayed 1-1 until the seventh, when an error, a double, and a sacrifice fly by Trey Cabbage brought home the go-ahead run.  The Snappers got the tying run to third with two out in the ninth, but a strikeout ended the game.

Anthony Marzi pitched seven innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  His ERA is 1.99.  It was the third straight game, and fourth in the last five, in which he has given up only one run.  Ryan Mason pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.71.  Hector Lujan struck out two in a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 1.50 with a WHIP of 0.90 and 50 strikeouts in 48 innings.  Lewin Diaz was 2-for-3 with a double.  Royce Lewis was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .385.

ELIZABETHTON 9, BRISTOL 1 IN BRISTOL

Jose Miranda hit a two-run homer in a three-run third that put the Twins ahead 4-0.  The Pirates got on the board in the fifth, but the Twins got the run back in the sixth and put the game out of reach with four in the eighth.  Akil Baddoo had a two-run double in the eighth inning.

Bailey Ober struck out eleven in six innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk.  His ERA is 1.96 with a WHIP of 0.87 and 28 strikeouts in 23 innings.  Jovani Moran struck out five in two shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero with a WHIP of 0.79 and 35 strikeouts in 20.1 innings.  Jared Finkel pitched a perfect inning to lower his ERA to 2.77.  Baddoo was 3-for-4 with three doubles and a walk, scoring three times and driving in three.  He is batting .367.  Ariel Montesino was 3-for-4.  Wander Javier was 2-for-4.  Rainis Silva was 1-for-4 with a triple and a walk and is batting .325.  Carson Crites was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .319.

GCL TWINS 6, GCL RED SOX 4 AT RED SOX

The Twins trailed 2-1 after six, but Jared Akins hit a grand slam to put the Twins in front 5-2.  Akins delivered a sacrifice fly in the ninth to make it 6-2.  The Red Sox loaded the bases with none out in the ninth.  A double play scored one and a double scored another, but a strikeout ended the game.

Tyler Benninghoff started and pitched just two-thirds of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.  Henry Centeno pitched a scoreless inning to drop his ERA to 2.89.  Kevin Marnon then struck out four in three shutout innings to lower his ERA to 0.87 with a WHIP of 0.97.  Cody Stashak struck out four in two shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero with a WHIP of 0.50 and 6 strikeouts in four innings in his rehab assignment.  Derek Molina pitched a scoreless inning to make his ERA 1.42 with 15 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.  Alex Robles was 2-for-4 and is batting .316.  Benjamin Rodriguez was 2-for-4.  Emmanuel Morel and Jean Carlos Arias were each 2-for-5.  Akins' home run was his third.  Kerby Camacho was 1-for-1 with a double and a walk and is batting .310.

DSL TWINS 6, DSL ROCKIES 4 AT TWINS

A walk and three consecutive doubles put the Twins ahead 3-0 in the first.  The Rockies came back, scoring single runs in the third and fourth and plating two in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.  Back-to-back triples by Ruben Santana and Samuel Vasquez tied it 4-4 in the fifth.  in the sixth, the Twins had a man on second with two out and got three walks and a wild pitch to score two runs and take a 6-4 lead.  The Rockies had two men on in the seventh but got only one hit after that.

Luis Gil struck out five in three innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  His ERA is 2.72 with 48 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.  Junior Navas pitched two shutout innings to keep his ERA at zero in 15.2 innings.  Yeremi Garcia and Luciano De La Cruz each pitched a scoreless inning.  Wander Valdez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Santana was 1-for-3 with a triple and a walk and is batting .353.  Alberoni Nunez was 1-for-4 with a double and is batting .349.  Yeltsin Encarnacion was 0-for-4 with a walk and is batting .320.  Estamy Urena was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk and is batting .318.  Agustin Marte was 0-for-4 and is batting .303.
