Ten games left. We still have a wild card spot. A few wins in Detroit would be really helpful. Adalberto Mejia tries to get one tonight. Go Twins!!!!!

Very nice rendition of the National Anthem tonight. They weren't opera stars, so Dad may not have liked it, but very good anyway.
A Dozier leadoff home run would meet with my approval.
Came up a little short.
Another hit for Mauer!
Detroit's is the only option for the TV feed tonight.
The TV listings say the game is on Fox Sports 1.
That's what my feed says, but it must be Dick & Bert's night off.
That's what I've got on the work TV. Blandly harmless, I guess.
Olivaesque AB here.
One inning and we're still tied!
The Twins have really had a "feast or famine" offense lately. We need more feast and less famine.
Gibson pitches tomorrow.
Wide zone tonight, boys. Better be swinging.
Listening to tigger sqwaukers. Color guy is worthless. Has nothing to add other than 'yeah, need to do that', 'yeah, that was a fast fastball', 'yeah, that was a nice little swing'. Has no numbers, no insights.
Don't know if you're referring to radio or TV, but I've never been impressed with their radio crew. They're not offensive or anything, just pretty bland.
WXYT radio. Their main guy seems well-informed, has the stats there, etc., but the other dude is like, me.
The other dude is Jim Price, former catcher. He's in his fifteenth year on the radio crew, so I don't imagine he's going to get better.
I bet they never called him JiPri
Switched to the TIBN. What a relief. Dazzle can do both call and color. Has multiple sentences with multi-syllables. Nice for the other guy to be able to leave the booth for a coffee and a smoke.
Yes. For all the grief I give Dazzle sometimes, he and Provus are among the top broadcasting teams in MLB.
Rats.
The second time through the order isn't looking very good for Mejia.
Nice recovery, though!
Time to break out the bats, boys!
I am surprised Polanco didnt bunt.
Tie game!
on the board!
Buxton!!!!
Bux!!
A three-run inning! Is it enough to give the Twins "momentum"? We'll see.
That error didn't help the momentum any.
But Mejia gets it back!
Mejiamentum!
Really? You're walking #9 in the order? After walking #8 in the order earlier in the game. Natch.
Something not related to this game, but holy cows the Brewers are only 3.5 games out of first place? I should pay attention to the NL more.
And only a game behind Colorado for the second wild card.
I'd love a Twins-Rockies World Series.
Fangraphs would seem to give this about 1-in-1600 odds this year
I'm not really in favor of the stars getting special treatment on ball/strike calls, but if that's the way it is, I'm glad to see Mauer getting the benefit of it again.
Most of the time I feel like Mauer knows the zone better than the umps, but yeah, I'll take it.
That used to bug me, but I suppose a great hitter should see the ball better than the umpires, no matter if it's their only job.
I'm not greedy here. A two-run single from Eddie would be just fine.
I'm with you. From a former boss: "Be a pig, but don't be a hog".
That's pretty good.
Well, I guess I'll settle for a one-run single. Dazzle sounded like he thought Mauer should've scored, though.
I'm still trying to figure out why Mauer didn't score. Vargas should have scored on that. It should have been 2 runs in and first and third. Doesn't matter now, but it was just very surprising to see Mauer not score on that.
One run okay?
Delay of game == 15 yards!
Kirby used to attack early like that all the time.
So did _elmon. But with rather different results.
Probably read but don't remember - on the soccer shirt design motif in the banner, what was the significance of the three stars, and why one blue and two red?
If I had to guess, one AL pennant and two World Championships.
That or two Championships in Minnesota and one in D.C.
What? For real? Come on, Molly.
I do not understand this pitching change. I assume Mejia must have run into a pitch limit, but even so I'd have given him at least one more batter. Molitor really tends to overmanage in important games.
It's because Miggy is a babalawo.
That is a.....way more complicated answer than I would have expected.
I think Mejia was on a pitch count.
I mean, if you have to get one, do whatever you have to do. Still, I totally agree that Molitor tends to overmanage big games. More importantly, he tends to go crazy on overmanaging when he's lost "momentum".
I think the New York series threw him, and he's overcompensating.
I didn't see any reason to think Mejia couldn't have gotten the last out. And I get the pitch count, but in a game like this, I'd still have given him one more batter. A pitch count is a guideline, not a barrier that must never be crossed under any circumstances.
Completely agreed
Another two-out hit by Mauer would be welcome.
That'll work!
400!
400!
RBI-fest, Mauer-style!!
Ball wasn't close enough to the wall for Mahtook to give Mauer his eighth home run.
Keep it going, guys!
950 career runs score for Mauer!
Tied with Carew.
Wonder why it's an RBI if it hits Miggy's glove?
No defender in the area?
Awesome.
950 runs for Mauer, tied with Carew for 3rd all-time in the Twins era of the franchise. Not bad for a p*ssy singles hitter.
P*ssy Riot!
Okay, guys, save some for tomorrow.
Is a 6 run lead bullpen proof?
Probably not this bullpen.
Mauer is now raising his career average, after far too many years lowering it.
That's awesome. More of this!
(in best Don LaFontaine voice) : "Joe is back... and he's pissed"
How close has Joe gotten to .400 OB%?
.384 entering play and I think he's 3-3 with a walk so... now at .3887.
We seem to have flipped the switch from "famine" to "feast" tonight.
FEAST MODE!!!!!
I don't understand why Gee, our "long man", came out after an inning and a third, either. Pressly pitched Friday, Sunday, and Tuesday, so it's not like he needs an inning of work.
Im guessing its the "roles" part. Pressley "role" is the 7th inning guy.
Again, just a guess.
Agree with that. But, not sure they need a 7th inning guy with a seven-run lead.
On second thought, I do. He just pitched Tuesday. Only two-thirds of an inning, but still, I can see the change.
Dunce in for the Cubbies vs Brewers
Cleveland finished the LAA sweep.
Closing in on a tragic number of eight.
12-1. Perkins time!
Obligatory "at work" post to try to get us over 100 comments. Where was this all the past 3 days?
1) Rope-a-dope
2) Hoping to push the Yanks past the BoSox so Twins fans can get a different flavor of disappointment.
BTW Nibbish - I was one of your subs for cribbage Monday night and we went 1W - 2L. Sorry bud!
Was the win in the first game?
Thanks for pinch hitting, either way!
Yeah... second game. Third game was a tiebreaker and we lost it. I think I had 2 hands all night over 6.
ouch!
Ha, that sounds like Steve and I at the season end tourney this spring.
Thanks again, I have a few people who said they'd sub for me, but literally every one of them was busy or not in town.
Belisle warming up for the 11-run save.
Wes Littleton shudders at this high degree of difficulty
This game had a good pace early on, then the 10 walks and 15 pitching changes happened.
You gotta expect that in a tight game like this
Belisle slams the door. Whew. That was close.
Pups & 'splosions
