Off-Season’s Greetings: Games of November 5

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

No games scheduled.

VENEZUELAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Leonardo Reginatto (Margarita) was 2-for-6.  Anthony Marzi (Margarita) started and pitched five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

LARA 3, LA GUAIRA 1 IN LARA

Lara scored two in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.  Chuck Taylor was 3-for-4.  Raul Rivero pitched six shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

CARACAS 6, ZULIA 2 IN CARACAS

Felix Perez' two-run single in the first gave Caracas a 2-1 lead and Caracas scored three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.  Alexander Palma was 3-for-4.  Albert Suarez struck out five in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.  Zach Houchins was 3-for-4 with a double to lead Zulia.

MARGARITA 4, ANZOATEGUI 3 IN MARGARITA (GAME 1--7 INNINGS)

Cade Gotta's two-run double with two out in the bottom of the seventh turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 win.  Gotta was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.  Omar Bencomo pitched five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout.  Daryl Thompson pitched 4.1 innings for Anzoategui, giving up two unearned runs on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

ANZOATEGUI 3, MARGARITA 0 IN MARGARITA (GAME 2--7 INNINGS)

Anzoategui scored one in the first and two in the third.  Rafael Ortega was 3-for-4 with a double.  Emmanuel Marcan pitched 3.2 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and no walks with one strikeout.  His replacement, Fernando Cruz, was even better, retiring all ten men he faced and striking out two of them.

MAGALLANES 5, ARAGUA 3 IN MAGALLANES

Magallanes scored all five runs in the fourth and made it stand up.  Aragua scored all three in the ninth and got the tying run up to bat with none out, but never got him on base.  John Lamb pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.  Wuilmer Becerra hit a two-run homer for Aragua.

MEXICAN LEAGUE

Twins:  Andy Wilkins (Culiacan) was 1-for-4.

JALISCO 13, NAVOJOA 9 IN JALISCO

Jalisco led by 8-0 and 13-4.  Navojoa scored five in the eighth to make the final score look better.  Manny Rodriguez was 4-for-5 with a double.  Amadeo Zazueta was 3-for-6 with a double and scored three times.  Edson Garcia was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.  For Navojoa, Carlos Mendivil was 4-for-5 with a double and Randy Arozarena was 2-for-5 with a double and a grand slam, his fourth homer of the season.  He had five RBIs.

MAZATLAN 6, LOS MOCHIS 2 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mazatlan scored one in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and two in the sixth to build a 6-0 lead.  Jeremias Pineda was 3-for-5.  Mitch Lively struck out six in six innings, giving up one run one eight hits and one walk.  For Los Mochis, Sebastian Valle was 3-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Rodolfo Amador was 3-for-4.

MEXICALI 6, HERMOSILLO 4 IN HERMOSILLO

Roberto Lopez tripled and scored in the seventh, breaking a 3-3 tie.  Chris Roberson provided some insurance with a two-run single in the ninth.  Xorge Carrillo was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Rolando Valdez pitched five innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Fernando Perez hit a home run for Hermosillo.  Ryan Verdugo pitched six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and no walks with one strikeout.

CULIACAN 7, OBREGON 3 IN OBREGON (19 INNINGS)

No wimpy "start with a runner on second" rule here.  Culiacan scored in the ninth to tie the game 3-3 and there it stayed for the next nine innings.  In the nineteenth, Maxwell Leon delivered a two-run double and Alexis Wilson followed with a two-run single.  Sebastian Elizalde was 3-for-7 with two walks.  D'Arby Myers was 3-for-8 with a walk.  Edgar Gonazlez pitched seven innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out two.  For Obregon, Alex Liddi was 3-for-7 with a walk, Leo Heras was 3-for-8, and Niko Vasquez was 2-for-7 with two doubles and three RBIs.  David Reyes pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five.  Carlos De Leon pitched six innings of relief, giving up two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out five.

DOMINICAN LEAGUE

GIGANTES 5, ESCOGIDO 2 IN ESCOGIDO (10 INNINGS)

Eloy Jimenez hit a three-run triple with two out in the tenth to win the game for the Gigantes.  Patrick Johnson pitched five innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three.

TOROS 4, ESTRELLAS 1 AT TOROS

Alexi Casilla's RBI single put the Toros ahead 2-1 in the second and Sean Halton's two-run triple in the fifth put the Toros in control of the game.  Elih Villanueva pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

AGUILAS 4, LICEY 2 AT AGUILAS

Jung Ho Kang had a two-run double in a three-run fourth that put the Aguilas ahead 3-0.  It was 4-0 before Licey finally got on the board in the ninth.  Jorge Lopez pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk while striking out two.
